1996 f-150 4.9L 300 I6 4X4 5 SPD w/ OD, K&N Filtercharger filter, straight pipe , 3" lift, 33" tires, 4.10 front and rear, 94K miles, about 4K miles in mud, the only thing ive replaced is front suspension and steering bushings because of fatigue... and rancho shocks... runs better than the day it rolled off the assembly line (and better than dads '03 1500 chevy)

I recently gave my '87 F150 to a friend of mine because I bought a newer truck. It's got just over 200K on the clock. It burns some oil but still runs like the wind. They ran it out of oil a few weeks ago (duh), put four quarts in it and got it started, and it's been fine ever since.
Mountain Pass
My 84 F150 had over 300k on it when the AOD tranny finaly gave out but cant complain there either because it was used to tow ALOT of vehicles on a trailer.
Only problem i EVER had besides minor stuff is the head cracked but that was my own fault because the lower radiator hose had blown while cruising and i didnt pay attention the gauges and by the time i looked down and seen it the temp gauge was totaly pegged, shut it off and let it cool and at one point heard the "POP" and knew i was in trouble then.
After i drove it a few times after that and was fouling plugs and seen oil in water and vise versa i took the head off to get a look, cracked in number 3 chamber,i got a used head off a 77 300,had it checked and a few new guides and valve job done and ran strong as ever till the tranny gave out.
One thing i noticed while the head was off,the cylinder walls had NO,NONE..Zilch wear on them, had a ridge but i scraped it with my fingernails and it was just carbon build up,i was amased because at this point it had over 280k on it.
I use a 86 4x4 F250 diesel for my hauling now and my son wanted the 84 to fix the tranny and have for his own hauling so i gave it to him,he is currently(as time off from his work allows) changing the the tranny out,as good as that engine looked inside i told him he'd be better off putting new timing gears and lifters in it while the truck is down,i had already put a new high volume oil pump in while replacing the oil pan gasket .
Im bettin with a new lifters and timing gears it'll get another 300k out of it as long as its regularly maintananced, just cant beat em,and by the way,my 86 6.9 is all rebuild with a few mods for performance and it feels to me like the 300 done just as good if not better pulling wieght.

1990 F-150. Yup. Ditto for the 150k mark. But thems the breaks when you have a motor that outlasts everything on the truck including the truck itself.
181k miles. Have a thermactor system fault and no EGE position signal flashing on the comp. Otherwise even with the problems. Once I get that thing wound up its unstoppable. Doesn't get up to speed as quick as most things out there but it gets there without (m)any problems. She leaks oil. A little out the rear main. Nothing serious. The five speed tranny is about ready to take a dump. But the thing that impresses me the most is when I pull the oil cap off and put the palm of my hand over the hole this motor will draw vaccum. I drove this thing for two months with a blown water pump (couldn't afford a new one, drove with the heater on in an arizona summer during the day). Took this thing down some sandy washes without a hitch. Didn't get stuck once despite it only being a two wheel drive. Bailed my boss out when he went to haul a load of tires (12 foot trailer+loaded bed). No problem. Strong as an ox in the low end. Unbelieveable strong.

My '88 F150 4x2 shows 77K on the odometer, which I'm guessing has been over once. It has some minor issues, engine-wise, but is my daily driver, and racks up anywhere from 20 to 75 miles per day. The body is'nt in great shape, owing to the fact that it has'nt been washed since I got it, but I did'nt buy it for the looks of it. The old truck was'nt designed for some of the things I use it for, but it's never left me stranded, and has'nt required anything beyond routine maintenance. I plan to keep it for awhile longer... hate to say forever, since I tend to get my eye caught on lots of trucks that I run across with "For Sale" signs in the window. But if this were to be the last truck I ever own, I would'nt be a bit disappointed.

181,000 when purchased in 2004. Purchased Ford crate 4.9 to replace the engine when it finally broke. Driven daily since 2004 and has 212,670 miles as of today. What should I do with that crate engine? I'm tempted to hot rod the thing but this one has been so sweet, (besides that rap at start up).

I have 209,500 on my 1995 F150 that I just converted to a 4x4. I had a free 1982 F150 with the T-18 given to me that had a cool story. My friend's dad bought it new. He drove it untill he thought it was too rotted out. It had 170,000 on it. His kids beat it through the wodds, and then he sold it to the neighbor for $150.00. The neighbor drove it for another 100,000 miles until it wouldn't start one day. He grounded the battery to the heater box. It sat in the field for three years until it was given to me. I beat it through the woods for about 6 months and then junked the truck. The engine still runs. I hope my 6.0 diesel is 1/2 as tough as that old 300.
