My 77's got 133,000 miles on it and is starting to get kinda worn. (I guess this means I should stop pulling trees out of the back yard) My brother had a 93 that had over 290,000 before he totaled it. Never o.h'd or anything, just carefully driven for the most part.
Nothing of importance on my 300-6. 151K Will need a new oil pan gasket in not too long. Leaks more oil then it burns. Holds good oil pressure so I'm, going to keep driving it.
Turned over 160,000 last weeek. Had 52,000 when my parents bought it back in '98. Earlier this year I put 6000 miles on the truck in one month driving back and forth to Idaho by way of Texas. Narry a whimper out of the 300, though I don't want to talk about the fuel bill!
92 f150 2wd odometer stopped working 5 years ago at 192k best guess on milage around 250k running strong when the plugs are clean blows smoke on startup stops after a few seconds. Had water in the oil for 4 years, the fix, radiator half full keeps the pressure down and very little water gets in, still doesn't seem to overheat. But plugs still come out with massive white deposits.
This trucks been through **** and back and starts every time.
my step dad has one that just quit on him at 242k miles ... used it to pull a horse trailer across country back when he worked the race track ... theres sum torque in those engines ..
1981 F100 short box 300 inline 4spOD with 225,000 miles, runs good, doesn't burn oil, replaced Brakes (twice) master cylinder, brake lines metal and rubber, king-pins, tie rods, wheel bearings, rebuilt trans, new radiator, heater core, recently replaced gas tank and fuel lines.. shocks, tires and general wear stuff.
All other equipment is original and working fine a real testment to Ford Engineering, This truck will rust out before that 300 ever wears out, darn Minnesota winters and salted roads..
My first truck was an 82 f-100 with a 4.9. My uncle gave to me instead of sending it to the scrap yard. My father told me if it died, I would get a different (hopefully better) vehicle. I TRIED EVERYTHING from 2001-2004 to kill this truck. I did everything I could short of sabatoge. I ran it with a busted carb for 4 months @ 5.5 mpg, 75-85 on the highway, etc.
In 2002 I got broad-sided by a panel van and bent the frame. I took the bed off, beat it out with a sledge hammer, and then chained one side of the frame to a telephone pole and the other to a friend's 96 f-350 and YANKED.
both my dad and I drove it for 4 more years.
I finally sold (read:gave) it to a friend who had a lake house and needed a boat-puller for $300 in 2006. I replaced the carburetor - welded the exhaust manifold back together - and did the brakes. The only thing wrong with it was the axle seal was leaking. It had 176,000 miles.
Back then it was One High School Punk vs. One Old truck. I got K.O.'d

Reason: forgot the wreck story

You will miss it one day as you get older, cause they don't, Ford don't, make that kind of killproof truck no more. Old trucks with distinctive low miles are sought after in my areas and hold very good value cause they last as antique/classic and give you feelings of invincible, do I say "invincible"? the new Toyota or new Ford can't give you those nostalgic feelings and they are so many plastic in them starting from bumper and on...
The 87 F-150 4wd I dragged out of my fathers backyard last month now has 165k on it. Replaced vaccuum lines, air filter, U-joints, and front calipers. Other than shocks and an exhaust patch, this sucker is good as gold. I'll be ecstatic if she goes to 200k. Its already better than the 158k I got out of my 94 Bronco.
