i wonder if anyone has figured out just exactly what goes wrong with the compressor? and do they just replace it and recharge? if so it must not be grenading and filling system with metal. just curious.
evacuation of the whole system/replace the dryer and all one time use items, recharge. That's what my work order stated. My compressor did not come apart.
Well, replacing the compressor made it work great now.
my point is that if there is an issue freezing up the evaporator it will take out the compressor, so yea, you will need a new compressor. The way people are explaining that it would start blowing warm, or that it was gradual warming says it could be freezing up. If that issue isnt addressed you will need another compressor eventually. Could be txv, sensing bulb placement..Wierd for compressors to just start failing across multiple years and even outside of what ford claims was the trouble dates.
Well, it’s just odd having these issues outside of the trouble dates. Ive had several superdutys, like 12, and for the most part the ac has been great and flawless…except my 2022 sometimes was slow to cool down a hot truck, and took longer than average to go arctic. Same with this 2024. It’s not the quickest. Past superduty would be quicker. I got in my truck Friday, it was 90f outside. I was leaving the city where i was working. Sitting in traffic it was not the greatest. 35 minutes later it going down the road it was arctic. I have an infrared temp gun i keep up front because this truck falls at the end of the dates and i was getting sub 20f inside vents at times. It was managing the evaporator pretty dang good. But it just like the 2022 is slower to get there.
confirmed that my compressor is toast. Dealer has ordered a new compressor. Pressure was 135 on the high side and it’s near 90 degrees outside. They have 8 on order and there are plenty of Ford dealerships in our area. Service Writer said they have a “Galactic Back Order”.
The problem for me is that I took it in at the end of ‘24 for a squeaky belt with less than 1000 miles. They supposedly checked it then and it passed. Fast forward six months and it starts to go out on us. Take it to another dealership and it was ice cold for the dealer on three drives over two days. Pick it up and it worked flawlessly for one drive. Then it completely broke while we were hauling in 85 degree weather and rain storms. Ford needs to come up with a better inspection procedure. I identified this problem almost three weeks ago but the part was just ordered today and I have to wait more than 5 weeks with three more hauls during this time.
Was there ever a confirmation of what build date range these were failing? My '24 failed last summer at around 18k miles, was repaired about a month later and now 60k+ miles and all is still good.
I'm in the market for a 2025 but skeptical if this is still an ongoing issue or what date ranges to stay away from.
Does anyone have the replacement part number for the compressor? I’d like to search around and see if other dealerships have it and could deal with my dealer. To trade the part.
thanks.
don’t think there was an UPDATE. They probably moved to the next lot with minor changes that seemed to work. Ford is playing SpaceX with our SuperDuty compressors. Tech Writer told me that the ‘24s are the second year of a new compressor design. Supposedly better design but the failure rate for us happens to be high. The design means that when they die that they do not contaminate the system (supposedly). Also the Freon is more forgiving if they have to clean the system.
Another victim confirmed. Just heard from the dealer that my compressor failed. Truck is just over 10k for mileage. They're replacing the compressor, TXV, and desicant bag. Was told that the compressor should be in-house in a couple of days.
[QUOTE=rstuart33;21261594]2024 F450 Lariat Pickup 6.7L HO build date 4/24/24
Purchased 6/11/24 drove 685 miles that day without issue, next morning hot air only from truck. Taken to dealer next day at 732 miles. Told compressor is shot and no eta, multiple on order with our dealer.
We have 11 of these trucks in our fleet and this is the first issue of it, but my dealer is saying we are 3,978 in line for a back ordered compressor and swapping an aftermarket one in will permanently void that portion of the warranty.

As of 6/20/24 we are up to 33 reported AC Failures only on this Forum. And only 7 of the 33 have been reported as repaired.
If you had a 2024 Super Duty delivered with early AC Failure please report details here. That way we can track the problem
I’ll put a spreadsheet together and will update it on this posting as members report. Some were pulled from other threads and postings on this forum
Post the following:

Complained about A/C first month after purchasing truck, brought into dealer at 1200 miles found no issues. I’m at 23,000 miles and brought the truck in. My entire system is getting swapped. Never went out but only blew cool
Getting fixed in about a week. Will attach invoice with part numbers etc. dealer said I’m 9th in line for a 250. Another one is in there manufactured in May/2024
I was on the forum about a year ago complaining about the truck when I bought it comparing it to my 13 and 16 and was told to quit complaining by most of the forum but I still stand by my statement of ford getting off track. This is my 2nd brand new ford truck in 2 years. First was a lemon and now this. Really is upsetting to spend almost 100k to have these types of issues. Engine is still a tank but I hate the 10 speed and I hate the electronics. If anyone is selling a 16 6.7 please let me know I’m wanting to go backwards.
