Washington's 2024 BS Thread
Didn't get much accomplished today, worked on the Bronco project a bit this morning, went grocery shopping with the wife, came home ate some ice cream and took a nap. I think after chores we will make a run to the lake and take a dip. I'm thinking we only have a few more days this year to do that.
Nikolas, Wish I was closer I would come over and help, I'm pretty good at electrical faults. You say it is sending 12v to ground? Is it blowing a fuse or what? I believe on your truck there is a build in circuit breaker built into the headlight switch.

I had a 1976 Ford Pinto, and this was about 1981. On my way to work one morning a Police Officer pulled me over for no break light. Fortunately, I knew the officer and he didn't know it was me or my car. When he saw who I am, he let me go on to work knowing I would fix it. It was a busy day and later in the afternoon I had the chance to go about 2 blocks to Nationwide Auto Parts and buy an new bulb. ONE new bulb back in those days!
I came back and installed it and OMG WT# !! NOTE the keys are not in the Ignition!!! I pressed the break peddle and the headlights came on. I turned on the headlights all four flashers started Blinking. Turned the headlights off and hit the turn signal (don't remember left or right) and the horn blew!
Two of the 3 partners in the station and little olde than me came out and we all had no idea. For the giggles we took a bulb out of something else that we knew was good and everything worked like it should!
OH, and the break light never came on in the tail light.
The bulb an 1175 was wired with both contacts hot and back fed to everything! LOL

The problem appears to have been the Holley lights unfortunately. Didn't even last 1 year. They function fine high and low but are somehow shorting to ground and energizing everything.
Oh well back to the old incandescants I spose.
Overcast and foggy here. Gonna take the dog to the bark park after breakfast.
The electrical problem came back last night. I had a light bulb and found a clue last night. I noticed the coil is getting 16-17 volts which means its probably the horrible duraspark box again.
Trustin, Cool tractor, looks like it is in great shape. Thanks for the photo.
Willie, Looks like you had a good time at the Ape Caves, I've heard of them but I've never been there. Thanks for sharing!
Nikolas, So it wasn't the lights after all? I'm not familiar with the Duraspark Box, Good luck.
Rod, Your electrical problem on the Pinto sounds interesting. It's funny how a single light bulb can cause such problems.
I have a funny story about a headlight switch. When I was contracting to the phone company I was driving a 1980 E250 van. I would be traveling down the highway and people would pull over for me, it was just unbelievable the luck I was having going back and forth to work it was like no one else was on the road. One day I had to work late and it got dark, I found out way everyone was pulling over, my headlights were flashing, going off on on.
I had to laugh but I felled bad at the same time.
I hope everyone ended August on a positive note and you are starting September on the good side. Beautiful day in my woods with plenty of sun, 83°, nice breeze and the humidity is about 40%.
Trustin, nice looking Tractor and a fun project.
Willie, looks like you had a great time and caves are cool and fun.
P.S. I did cave exploration and surveying back in the day!
Nicolas, I would check and see what the alternate is putting out.
Tim, Good afternoon, and I hope you Maria had a great weekend. Yes, it is funny what a minor issue like a bad bulb can cause! LOL
Well I replaced the duraspark box this morning and the voltage regulater and the 3 amp fuse for the dash lights no longer blows and the lights work fine.
I had another bad duraspark box a few months ago that caused the coils to pop.
I am still reading 16.7 volts on the positive side of the coil when running which is way to hot, witha fresh ignition box and regulater I'm not sure how its getting 16.7 unless the coil is shot and back feeding voltage. Alternator is putting out 14.7 which is a tad high but not crazy.
