It was a busy weekend for me. I wanted to finish the painting on my pop machine before the weather took a turn for the worse. Friday was forecast to be cold and windy, and continuing that way throughout this week, but when I woke up I was pleasantly surprised to find 65 degrees and calm. I hurriedly prepped and masked it up to spray the red, then move it back inside as we were scheduled to go to Yakima Friday afternoon for a concert at the Hop Country Music Festival. Foghat and Starship featuring Mickey Thomas were playing, and they didn't disappoint. Great music from my youth.
Saturday we came home after visiting with the wife's mom for much of the day, since we borrowed her guest room the night before after the show. I spent the rest of Saturday putting the machine together, and it came out great. Sunday early we were off again to go fishing with the son in White Salmon. (about a 2.5-3 hr drive) Spent the afternoon on the lake, caught a big Jack Salmon we took home, and several steelhead we had to release. A totally fun day, albeit really long. Got home almost 10 last night and crashed.
Today it was back to the grind, but thought I'd share some pics of the finished pop machine for you. Enjoy that refreshing new feeling! Now, I'm off to make fresh grilled salmon for dinner.
Good morning WA...and...wandering enthusiasts...Happy Saturday #2!!! Hope y'all have a great day!!!
Wayne...nice job on the soda machine...are you really charging 10 cents??? Love the old logos you came across for the product...Orange Crush...A&W Root Beer...Squirt.
I'm going to have to be careful because if this keeps up I'll be in danger of losing my class A chief procrastinators card. My wife gave me the pop machine about 10 years ago after telling her how I thought it would be cool to have one. But I was talking about an older one. Little did I know she had a friend who had this one she wanted to get rid of, so she got it for me. And while I thanked her for it, much to her chagrin I promptly disassembled it, redid the control panel with custom labels I made and the aluminum trim (which came from the bottom panel of an old screen door), had the name panel at the top made, started to prep it for paint when life got in the way and it sat on the back burner in my shop ever since. So a few weeks ago I realized I was tired of it looking like a pile, and with the weather nice enough to do something with it, I decided it was time to paint and put it back together. The rest is history.
While having beer in it sounds good, I can't stand canned beer, it has to be in a bottle, so there's that. I can have a separate fridge for grownup beverages.
I didn't know it at the time when I was ordering the decals but the machine is set to take nickels, so apparently that's what a can of pop costs at my house. This, after I spent $50 putting 60 cans in it. The good news is, it actually still works! Here's a before shot of it in the wife's friends garage, fyi. I think it looks way cooler now.
Happy Hump Day Washington, Tim, Ken, Ken, Wayne, TC, Steve and all the Pop machine crew. Wish at the time I would have had a place to put and keep the old nickel Coke Cola machine from my grandfather's house. It was one you opened the door and grabbed the bottle neck and pulled it out!
Another beautiful day in my woods and we had a very brief rain this morning. I see the Bell peppers are needing picked and I need to look at what may be the last of the Cucumbers.
Looks like I will be pealing apples for apple jalapeño jam!
ThongTastic Thursday afternoon Washington, Tim, Wayne, Ken, Ken, Steve and all the crew I have missed. we had a dribble of rain yesterday in my woods and east of Charleston - The Capital - they had a lot of needed rain. We are Fire Danger dry and there is a burn ban for the last 3 weeks. It is about 1 month early for that.
I hope everyone survived Hump day unscathed, taking it easy today the Eve of the Weekend Eve.
Peaches are finished, Pickled Jalapeño's are done and now to finish the apples. I know we are starting this afternoon with Apple Jalapeño Jam!
