Good evening Oregon and everyone everywhere else.
It's been interesting since Monday Morning. Singled our Vandals at the Sportsmans Club, identified our Trespasser and gas thief (pictures to the SO & guess what - they recognized him as a repeat offender.
Sister insisted we come back to the valley so that Monday afternoon we could begin getting more stuff moved off the farm and starting identifying what was going to be in the estate sale. Couldn't reach her Sat, Sun or Mon. Went straight to voice mail. She finally called me on Monday evening. She and some friends took a trip to Prudhoe Bay Alaska. They're up there on a fishing trip. So, I found that to be outstanding and so typical little sister.
It appears we are going to have to get Star Link for internet at the Bravo Compound. Not many options. What seems to be available in the area is slow and expensive. I doubt it would handle any streaming and a security camera system. We have AT&T cell phone coverage and I can internet, stream Direct TV and Prime Video over the phone and even set up a hot spot and connect the lap top. But AT&T, T-Mobile (regardless of what John Travolta says) nor Verizon have home internet in the area.
So Tuesday I got word that a certain gun shop owned by one of our club members had a beautiful Savage 93R17 (.17 HMR) with HBar and a hardwood thumbhole stock and a Sweet 17 SP 3-12X40 scope at a ridiculous price. Wednesday morning I just had to go take a look to see if it was true or not.
Well, it was true. Fellow bought the rifle, put a scope on it, set it up for a bi-pod and then never shot it. Brought it in to sell on consignment at a ridiculously low $200. It did follow me to the range and then did follow me home.
Once I got the zero locked in, it was a tac driver. Sweet shooting little rifle.
.17 HMR Hornady 20 grain HP's. 25 yard on paper....100 Yard 'for score'. Hornady .17 HMR 20 grain, 10 rounds rapid fire hot barrel 100 yard. 17 HMR Winchester Varmit HV 17 grain spitzer, 10 rounds rapid fire, hot barrel. Savage 93R17 (.17 HMR) HBar and a hardwood thumbhole stock and a Sweet 17 SP 3-12X40 scope
Morning Chris, and all to follow.
Jim, I had to go with Star Link and it has been good over all. Little pricy and we seem to get a drop for a min or two around 2- 2:30 AM everyday. May be switching satellites then? Also with ATT and had to put a repeater up to get service in the house. The fun of living out of town,
Belated good morning Oregon and everyone everywhere else. 70.6 (the low since midnight) under clear and sunny skies.
Only appointment for the day is now completed.
Heading over to Otis now. See how my hunting and fishing partner is coming along on an old Trophy deep water fishing boat 'project' they picked up.

I kind of figured that Starlink would be the way we would have to go. The Real Estate Agent who showed the place the first time we looked at it told us that she had Starlink. She said there were other options available but they were slow. Viasat is supposedly available but I've talked to several people who are not at all happy with them or their customer service. They also seem more expensive than Starlink for comparable speeds and unlimited data. Yellowknife is what the neighbor's and previous owners had. He said it's "O.K." but I'm getting mixed info. Their top tier program is $90 p/month with Unlimited data at 5 Mbps download x 2 Mbps upload. I just don't think trying to run a home security system - remote monitoring with 6 to 10 cameras and stream any type of TV just isn't going to reliably happen at those 5X2 speeds. You also need a microwave repeater for remote reception mounted on the roof.
Cell phone with AT&T is no problem out on the farm here or at Bravo Compound. I can "hot spot" and stream and I can use my AT&T Wireless home phone system. Apparently they do not offer wireless home internet anywhere in Oregon yet. Leaving a cell phone up there as an internet connection point is viable and it would probably eat through the unthrottled limits in short order.
So, yep, it looks like Starlink will be the solution.
