Good afternoon Oregon and everyone everywhere else.. Working on a Sprinkler Head now. Have an elk on camera stepping on it a several nights aga. Didn't notice that it was shooting a straight geyser in the air until last night. I'm hoping I'll be able to fix it from some cannibalized parts from some old heads. The Warden just shakes her head when I tell her not to throw stuff like that away, that it may come in useful.........some day.

You made it out of the lumber yard eh Chris?

Well just in case you are feeling a little out of place.....

Good morning Oregon and everyone everywhere else. 68 and climbing under clear blue skies. Supposed to hit 96 around 1700 this afternoon.

Well the lines are drawn and it looks like war is coming or is here. The first shots have been fired. The Belding Ground Squirrel population and I are going to have it out. The Warden isn't so happy about it because she thinks they are cute, but they have crossed the DMZ and left their sanctuary and entered the yard. Not to mention I opened the irrigation pump house door this morning and found that 75% of the pinecone trimmings I shoveled out yesterday have been returned today. And there is a brand-new squirrel hole right next to the pump. Two of them opened holes in the front yard right next to sprinkler heads outside the front window yesterday morning. I'm pretty sure they are military scouts sent on a reconnaissance mission. Yesterday afternoon, two of them made a mad dash down the sidewalk and in under the front porch. Regardless of what the Warden says, this is war and them Sage Rats have to be pushed back to their little corning of the compound!

Military Scouts

New Fox Holes in the front lawn

War has been declared!

Good night Chris. We spent the cooler hours of the evening out in the barn "arranging" a few things. Still have a few things to finish up in the morning before we head back to the Valley.

Good morning Oregon and everyone everywhere else. 69 and climbing. We have most of the rearranging done out in the barn, just a few items left to stack. Still have one room full of boxes that have to be unpacked and figure out what to do with.
Have some things to do around the house before we take off for the valley. I'm really finding the desire to head down the mountain is very lacking so we are in no big hurry to take off today.

Had an interesting phenomenon happen around 0130 this morning. Had the sliding glass door to the 2nd story deck open, screen door closed, last night I heard a bunch of wing flapping and couldn't quite figure it out. Thought perhaps our bats were busy collecting all things of the night int he bug category. But these were making a little snapping sound which isn't bats. They're quiet. A little later, I could here something hitting the side of the house and the bedroom window. House was completely dark, no lights at all. Just after daylight I went out on the deck to look around and enjoy that first cup of coffee. I found a substantial number of moths on the deck. They are pretty good sized too.

Sitting here at the horse park in Woodside Ca. Way too many people in cali for my taste but surviving.

camping is a little tight. I’m apparently the camp cookie so I’m doing breakfast and dinner for the crew. Not sure how that happened. Oh well.

Here until next Sunday. Carry on.

Departed the Gilchrist Compound around 2000. Good trip down 58 to I-5. I-5 through Eugene was interesting to say the least. Didn’t get much better north of Eugene. Made it to Pioneer Villa Truck Plaza at 2205. Restaurant closed at 2200. So, on up the road to the Corvallis exit where we pulled into the EZ Travel Center to fuel up the truck.
Then it got kind of fun. Just as I was putting the GREEN nozzle in the fill spout a young man dressed nicely in casual attire approached with a red 5 gallon can. Long speel about needing just a little bit of gas to get home just up the road in Lebanon etc, etc. Any amount I could give them would help…….

I told him I had a green handle in my hand and he wouldn’t like me much but f he put that in his car, which I never did see. “But any little amount you could spare would really help.” I told him green handle meant diesel. He smiled and said “Oh”, turned on his heels and headed toward the back of the store where he disappeared. Never asked anyone else and every pump had cars & pickups at them.

So we proceeded on & decided to stop at Denny’s off 22 in Salem. As soon as we pulled in I realized that it was not going to be a quick stop. There was a tour bus with a big lighted scrolling reader board saying Banda Pequeños 2023 USA Tour.

Being gluttons for punishment, we went inside. Yep, the band I’d never heard of before, they’re dancers, support crew, bus drivers, producers, roadies….were all there taking up 3/4 of the place.

Just to make it even more interesting we find out one cook & most of the wait staff had called out. So there was one cook, 1 waiter & a manager. Manager was multi tasking in the kitchen helping cook and waiting on customers. We got out of there at about 0130.
C
Now we are at alpha HQ placating the house sitter and guard Kitty that had been left behind.

Bed time-Goodnight, morning or whatever.
