I'm going to reseal my steering gear next weekend. I was going to do it today but I ordered the seals and they won't be here till Monday or Tuesday so next weekend will be a good time. I got the input shaft seal kit and the pitman arm shaft seal kit. I have a really good buddy at advance Auto. He didn't make me pay for the stuff I was ordering and he said I could borrow the pitman arm puller without paying for it because he knew I'd bring it back. He said as long as he's there I can borrow the tools I need. I am about to put a differential cover back on and I will wait till tomorrow for the gasket maker to set and I will refill with fluid.
I was thinking about keeping the calipers that came off but, I just replaced mine last year so I'm not going to worry about it but I'm going to keep the bolts and whatnot just in case.
I had no idea the tailgate bushing bolt was adjustable. My right bushing kept getting eaten alive every couple months and for some reason while taking it off I didn't realize I could lower the bolt and tighten it back down so it wouldn't hit the sharp part of the tailgate latch. Now I shouldn't have to replace the bushings anymore for a while. The driver side does great I haven't had to replace it since I got the truck and it still looks fine.
You will need the bigger (heavy duty) size puller to remove the pitman arm from the shaft of the steering gear. At AutoZone it is part number "OEM 57170".
In order to remove the track bar from the pitman arm, you just need a smaller puller like the "OEM 57016".
The smaller and "normal" sized pullers are not big enough to fit over the larger side of the pitman arm.
The 2wd brake hoses are not long enough to allow for the additional suspension travel of 4wd axle.
I would not mess with steering gear if it’s not leaking or loose.
I never use pitman arm or tie Rod end pullers. They don’t work that well on most trucks. I was taught the method of smacking the side of pitman arm with a hammer to release it from the tapered shaft and it has never let me down. Same method for releasing ball joints from axle ‘c’.

Did you by any chance see my picture of my current brake hoses? They are pretty long for a two-wheel drive truck. I may have put four-wheel drive hoses on when I replace them last year if that's what the store had. I do not remember.
The steering gear is leaking which is why I want to reseal it.
I ordered both the input shaft and output shaft seal kit to do all of the inner and outer seals.
For getting the pitman arm off of the tapered shaft I have heard that tapping it with a hammer does good but, what about on the spline side? You would need a puller for that if it was really stuck would you not? Or do you tap on that too?
I did my Lariat seats swap today and man are they so much better than a bench seat!
My driver side seat is power adjust so I had to get power to run to it but that was easy. The only issue is the forward and back rails are rusted up and can only move forward and back about 3/8 of an inch. Gonna have to pull it back out and fix that. Also getting ready to buff my bumper a little bit and throw the clear coat over the paint.

Do not smack the shaft - at all. Hit the pitman arm where it goes on the shaft and it will get loose/fall off. Hit opposing sides if you can.
