gauges survey

I can't figure out if I'm going overkill, but I'm about to pull the trigger on going with the Tugly setup(2xEGT gauges, 1 boost/fuel psi gauge vs the standard 3 gauges(1xEGT, boost and trans temp) a little more expensive and just trying to figure out if it's warranted....or 3rd option 1 EGT with a switch to flip between sides

When you upgrade to a T4 apparently you won't need even 1 EGT.

I have EGT, Boost, Trans, Fuel

Good point. I guess I only really need them when towing or troubleshooting. I have an excursion, not a drag racer so most of the time the gauges won't matter much. I think I'll go with option 3 and just do EGT, boost/fuel, and trans temp and then buy an extra EGT probe and wire in a switch. I'm looking at wiring it all into a raspberry pi eventually anyways for ****s and giggles.

Some well respected FTE'rs recommend having an EGT gauge on a completely stock truck. I cannot dispute this advice because they have a lot more experience and knowledge about these vehicles than I do.

If I were in your situation, I would go with the Super 3... Trans Temp and Fuel Pressure for troubleshooting and keeping yourself out of trouble and EGT because it is a good idea. The EGT does not have the same value it has with an advanced turbo system, but is good to have.

Frankly I don't even look at my gauges much anymore because EGT, FP and boost are no longer a concern or indicator of how I should be driving. I have a ZF6, so transmission temperature was never a consideration.

The truck goes and I use the MPH gauge to set my cruise control speed and the sound of the engine to know when to shift up or down. I do look at my gauges from time to time because I am bored going down the road or they are in my field of view as I am look at the mountains, rivers, valleys, etc...

I like the switch idea for combining fuel pressure and boost on one gauge, to maximize it's value. FP is not needed much, so I'd keep it on boost most of the time.

My setup below. I preferred the gauges low as apposed to the pillar mount. Exception being the EGT on the column for quick reference when towing. I had a modified stock turbo and still needed to watch this parameter.

There's another mounting option Riffraff offers that I think I would have tried for dual EGTs here:

Quick question out of curiosity...what's that switch cluster beside your 4x4 ****?

That was a driver's seat memory switch cluster. It was part of a "Roll-a-long" package the truck had. The truck was an XLT that had been upgraded by the Roll-a-long company with extras like leather seats, power rear window, and this. Kind of like a Centurion package.

I had 5 gauges and OBDII monitoring (Torque Pro on an Android phone).

I had 2 x EGT, boost, fuel press, and trans temp. I had 3 of them (1 EGT, boost, trans) before I started using Torque Pro.

I'm old school so like having a larger, readable, dedicated gauge that I can see at a glance. I still used all of them after I started OBDII monitoring (I had a boost fooler so a gauge was necessary for that to me). The only one I could see not having was trans temp. I had that on Torque Pro but it was nice to be able to glance at a gauge to see how it was doing any time I wanted.

Personally I preferred 2 EGT gauges so I could always see and compare them.

Just my .02

My setup...

To the OP, are you dead set on analog gauges? I personally prefer the look of them but went with a cts2. you can monitor so many things off of vehicle sensors, boost, IPR, PW, oil temp (coolant temp), MPG, trans temp, battery voltage, and it goes on and on. That's what is included. If you want egt or additional things such as temperature sensor you install or psi, you need to buy the expansion kit. Which isn't horrible to the wallet but can get pricey. I also like the option of a back up camera as I have been in alot of rental cars for work and find it nice to have them. Just an idea.
