Just getting home from Salem and the Nut House.
They let us set in the hearing room for 2 and 1/2 hours this morning and then said the Fiscal wasn't all in on SB978 so are putting it off until tomorrow. What a load of BS they are pitching to us.
At 0016 hrs this morning, (that's right, 12:16 AM Sun night/Mon morning) they added a 45 page amendment. At 13:45 while waiting for "fiscal" reports, they added a 45 page amendment to the amendment. Even though there have been (as of 1345 today) 222 pages of amendment activity, it does not appear we will get another public hearing in the morning. They'll probably cram it through for a floor vote. Tomorrow is do or die. If they don't pass it out of committee tomorrow, it is dead.
Flood your Oregon Senators with emails!
The first gut and stuff amendment (44 pages) to SB 978, showed up 1 1/2 legislative work days before the public hearing last Tuesday. Two more (@44 pages each) were submitted in secret at 0812 the morning of the one public hearing we've been allowed on this bill, 12 minutes after the public hearing had begun. No one even new they were there until we got out of the hearing.
Then in complete secrecy and the dark of night, a 4th gut and stuff took place last night / this morning at 0016 hrs (yep you read correctly, 12:16AM)...A Sunday night/Monday morning, 45 page gut and stuff, that I believe is most likely a history setting precedence. We are fighting for another public hearing since the grand total gut and stuff now adds up to 177 222 pages of amendments, of which a good 45 are most likely to end up in a bill that started out as 1 page and 2 or 3 paragraphs. They postponed it this morning because they didn't have the required "fiscal" reports. After stalling and using fiscal reports as an excuse, at 1345 they added another 45 pages of amendment to amend the -4 they added just after midnight. More dirty tricks and dishonesty.Folks, this SB 978 is one of the most disrespectful, onerous, horrific, dirty, sneaky, underhanded pieces of cantankerous skullduggery, venomous chicanery I have ever seen acted out in the Oregon Legislature. So much for transparency, another dishonest presentation they have put forth.
Good morning Oregon and everyone everywhere else. Been pretty stormy here. Rain and winds up to 25 mph. Busy day today. Heading out to Salem in a couple of minutes. Supposed to be a hearing at 0815 at the State House. When that is over I have to get home and get the camper we are trading in loaded on the pickup and brought to the house where we can unload the contents and get it ready to go tot the dealership for the trade in. Our new camper should be getting here any day now.
Have to be back for another meeting at 1600 this afternoon that will go on until 2000 hrs.
