Already robbed all the parts out of it and working on reinstalling them in the engine I pulled out of the truck. This time it’s gonna be a more quick down and dirty build no full on painting or anything I do plan on painting oil pan black though.
Swapped this engines timing cover over to a 96 timing cover and swapped my other manifolds over and camshaft half to swap pushrods and headstuds. On another I’m seriously considering tarring down my transmission and doing a basic over haul any tips or advice figured I’d order most of the basic tools needed.
doing a ZF5? i did mine last fall of 22
hardest part was getting the right pullers stacked (i saved a pic in my build thread) and buy good snap ring pliers
i have a bearing shim kit i didnt use and some extra snap rings
Thanks definitely nice info to have I have engine all sealed just waiting on some extra coin to order another set of riffraff gen 3 3in plenums for this motor. It was a 94.5 engine with one 96 10 bolt plenum head on it now it has a 96 timing cover on it. But I need the new style plenums that will work on either heads to finish this build.
Well while waiting on extra funds for some new gen 3 riffraff plenums for my replacement engine. I’m going to get some other much needed maintenance done. Starting with removing the bed and current fuel tanks. I plan on installing a factory front plastic tank and ditching rear tank atleast for now. So I removed bed and tanks and did some powerwashing.
Also plan on removing previous owners rail brackets always bothered me that they welded them along with the gooseneck hitch. I might remove gooseneck hitch as well I think I have a b&w hitch somewhere in my stash of parts.
Will do thanks between this project and all our customers jobs going on leaves very little time for this one. Honestly I don’t know if I’ll do very much towing with this truck anymore. My Sd f350 6speed truck I absolutely love towing with.
Well hopefully I will be back on this build soon enough scored a used Sd 4r100 dipstick tube to modify for my truck. Last one of these kits I installed it worked out much nicer should be able to order new pair of riffraff intake plenums in next few days hopefully. As well as a new sending unit for the 24 gallon plastic front tank I’m swapping to.
Well new riffraff plenums arrived got them installed and my topside fuel system. Hpop reservoir is reinstalled as well I just half to replace hpop rail plugs and install fluid damper. I also plan to spray paint the yellow oil pan black I will grab pics tomorrow.
I used same trick I’ve used couple times now that seems to work well. I use a little bit of oring lube on the plenum in several spots and it holds oring on perfectly. And I’ve checked for leaks and it’s never caused a problem so far makes a much simpler install.
