Hi all,
Im looking for the experienced E4od tranny guys to bestow some knowledge on me. My rig is roughly pushing 350-400 HP 4X4 and i tow up to 8k lbs. flatbeds on and off road and a 4k 20' camper. I do have experience rebuilding the predecessor C6 trans but only gas applications.
what are yalls recommendations for brand of rebuild kits, below are the two kits that have been suggest to me so far.
iv got one ordered on the way, from my understanding its similar to the C6 (which iv done multiple times) just with an overdrive(extra planetary) and a solenoid pack(that replaced the governor). i feel confident in the process just looking for direction with part selection and additional know how like upgrades that dont come in the kit that would be worth my time.
There are many small upgrades depending up the year of your unit and yes, basically a C6 back side with the OD section up front.
Good shift kit (I like Superior's Powertow for these), good size cooler, triple disc with low stall (billet cover if crazy), that spiral snap ring for OD assembly, maybe the roller style center support with snap ring, and well I think that is about it. There is some coast clutch upgrade too.
Most seem to go with new solenoid packs on a reman.
Here's a good read for starters. It helped me when I started messing with them. And shows how to build some tools.
I've had better luck with the sonnax 4r100 pro pack
Some online research will bring up info on hard part upgrades needed. Really depends on the driver's foot and how the trans is treated for determining what's needed. I built the one I ran in my Lightning and installed just about every upgraded part I could find. My logic was if I destroy a clutch, that was easy to repair vs broken hard parts. Mine stood up to 8-900 hp just fine.
Talking about lighting there's a local vato that has an OBS lighting and that thing scoots, I don't know what he's got under the hood but by the size of the rear slick tire and him able to lift the front wheels with ease and leave you deaf on take off from the zoomies I say he's well over what my budget allows lol.
My best asset was the “Transmission bench” on YouTube, you won’t be disappointed
Was just reading through this to see if anyone recommended them. When I get time to rebuild mine I will be ordering parts from Transmission bench and following their videos. I watched them all once and its amazing the detail.
