Hey Jack, I don't want to clutter the other thread but yeah body work comes up now and then. Last thing I painted was my 94 Dakota, flat black. Before that for a customer was a Chevy bedside but had it painted by local shop in a booth.
I had also prepped and painted chassis, replaced all the fuel lines and fuel cooler, along with the fuel tank sender that was rotting out. He plows with the truck and it showed. The wheel arch was pretty crunchy and got into the wheel well panel so I replaced that too. Oh it it took 2 tries to get a bedside not damaged from shipping. Actually this one was damaged but I massaged out the crease near the brake light.
This is mine. One day I'll get back on it. Probably when I retire from the regular job. Full resto plus 8pt. roll cage. Too bad my home track closed. RIP E-town.😔
I guess nothing has changed. That's why I had bought my iron heads through KCTurbo. They were great and dealt with "motivation".
Almost forgot
Did you get to see the new heads when I posted the photos?
One of my newest cats named Pán is doing his inspection before his seal of approval.
I want to be back to this stage with the new parts before the end of the year. I am thinking I will not be doing any paint on parts. But that is not set in stone and
paint may get sprayed if I change my mind. I would like to get the exhaust manifolds coated by Jet-Hot so that more of the heat stays inside where it can do more work.
I would also like to wrap the pipes in the bay to keep heat in also. I am going to have one of the hose builders at work make me up
some good strong hoses for my coolant filter. Mine had started to leak about 3 months before I found that I was running with a bad head gasket.
it's nice to read that not everyone here on FTE worked only on the superduties. I have restored many tractors and old LandRovers in my life and especially French Citroen 2CVs. Do you know these vehicles in the US? The engine had 0.6liter cubic capacity and 27hp .
Oh YES a BUG!
Do show more of the Beetle. That is one car I really regret not keeping.
Also I have a bed sitting on a stand that I really need to get a new side and wheel well back together.
I went through a few of them, interesting to drive in winter as you had to push them hard to get the heating going as it ran off the exhaust manifolds. Most interesting one had a 1200cc engine and cross-ply tires - only vehicle I've ever driven that could do full-blooded 4-wheel drifts. The others would only hang the back end out, and if you over-corrected it would take you backwards into the ditch - not an uncommon sight in Germany 40 years ago...
So who else has seen or remember using one of these Bay Lifts? I just scored this one last month for only $200. from a place called Fazzio's Steel that sells used equipment & metal/supplies. As you can see it goes plenty high for brake jobs and tranny drops. The 1st pic with my son was partially raised up by the trailer hitch but it is designed to grab the axle tubes. I lifted my Wife's Yukon Denali by the axle (air ride equipped) and it got high enough that the front bumper touched the ground, if you can imagine the angle. It lifts about 5'.
