Scott, here is what I had up. I had to bring in all the trees from PA this year that were under 12 ft.
This year, we had a severe drought in this part of NJ. In my 71 years on the farm, I've never experienced anything like this.
When I stopped counting, I lost over 250 trees. Even though I watered this group weekly, it did not make a difference. And the ones that did look OK, I wouldn't dare sell them. They might start dropping needles in a week once in a house. I didn't bother doing my September pruning to get them ready; there was no sense. It's probably about a $25,000 loss, at least. Maybe $30k when I finish up the total count. Welcome to farming ...

Mother nature can be a real C-word.
It's been a heck of a year for you, Jack. Hopefully you can get back on track in the new year.
I used to get a little money for my waste oil, but nowadays I have to pay to have it recycled.
Our stupid government no longer buys gas directly from Russia, but through dealers (who buy the gas from Russia).
Or we buy the expensive liquid gas from you in the USA, which has increased the cost of gas here enormously.
I have now converted a wood-burning stove into a waste oil burner. This means I have no more heating costs and no more waste oil to dispose of.
Merry Christmas. @Hartwig do you have plans for how you did this conversion? I’m definitely interested in doing a similar thing but on a bit smaller scale, and possibly portable.

I don't have any plans. I built everything by "feel". I will post here pictures tomorrow.
Merry Christmas everyone!!! Hope the day was fun filled with family and friends.
Jack-I feel your pain in all the effort put in to the trees/farming and see it all disappear. I used to have a farm as well and can relate directly to the hard work put in and all of the things(weather related) that you cannot control. Hopefully next year will prove more positive.

the housing consists of a 10mm steel plate as the base and 6mm flat steel blanks with a length of 230mm as the “side wall”
The air is blown in by a fan from below through the 10mm steel plate. The size of the tube is 1 1/4”
The oil is introduced slightly above the base plate through a 1/2” inch pipe
Only one base plate was cut out of the wood stove and the cut-outs for the air and oil supply were cut out, otherwise no additional work is required. The whole thing works without any moving parts, it can't really break.
This is the nozzle from which the air flows out. I first drilled the holes with 4mm. In the meantime I have widened them to 6mm.
I have now replaced the fan with one with speed control. This makes the noise quieter and less heat escapes through the chimney
