ArmyLifer's Excursion maintenance/upgrade thread
Just my .02
I had a buddy from a local Mustang group (over ten years ago now...wow time flies) borrow 3 temporary donut tires from three other members and with his donut spare, ran all 4 temporary tires for over 6 months on his V8, until he could afford new tires.
And he drove like a fool on those temporary, speed-limited spares.

I got the USB extension from Amazon. On the first post in this thread IÂ’ve got all part numbers and where I bought them.
I may be singing a different story by Monday though. This weekend I’m planning on doing: HPOP lines, FRx, HPx, CAC boots (with plenum inserts), AIH delete, power steering pressure hose, transmission line thermostat, heater hoses, passenger side fuel line, and new wastegate actuator vacuum lines.
I’m a bit nervous about doing this much, but I figured while I had things apart doing the CAC boots... This is the definition of mission creep. Thanks FTE

Started working on this table’s worth of parts Saturday morning. Finished everything except the transmission thermostat and one of the heater hoses in 13.5 hours. That was straight time...no food or bathroom breaks. Did get some liquid, but obviously not enough if I didn’t go to the bathroom.
Replaced Power Steering Pressure Hose. Was pretty painless with the battery box/air cleaner and CAC tube out of the way.
You can kind of see the new fuel line. Putting on the back fitting was a bit of a pain as you could only move the wrench about 1/8 turn, flip it over and do another 1/8 turn.
Riffraff Plenum Insert in. Yes, that red piece if tape went into the plenum. I cleaned it out but who knows what else made it into there, the oil system, or the fuel system with all the gunk that was in the engine compartment with all these different mods happening “at the same time”.
AIH Delete. Very easy to do when the spider is already out.
Spider back in with new boots. Getting the plenum boots onto the spider or vise versa was a pain. Ended up using a plastic trim tool like a tire lever for installing a bike tire. That worked well. Getting the turbo lined up with the spider took some work too. Ended up using a large set of channel locks to get them aligned.
Everything put back together and ready to leak test. Also shows the new Turbo Wastegate Actuator Lines.
I apparently never took a picture of the new HPOP lines. They were a different story. When replacing the o-rings in the head fittings, take them out of the head... Also, my valley was completely dry before starting this project. After the HPOP lines were disconnected, that all changed.
Important takeaways:
-I'm too old for this.
-If I'm ever going to do engine work like this again, a topside creeper is mandatory.
-The handiest tool in my toolbox was the extendable antenna-like magnet. Countless tools retrieved from the valley, and the damn FRx passenger fitting was retrieved from where it had fallen at least 100 times.
-I think I might need to change the Ex's name from Bob to Riff, as it seems like half the parts on it are from Riffraff.
Deep thought for the day: sloped driveways and creepers don’t play nice together.
