Good info. I had no idea. T55 did work, but like you said it was a bit loose.

My seat covers were fine so I was just replacing the cushion. I bought it from The Seat Shop. They also have a good video series about installing that I watched (https://www.theseatshop.com/2000-200...r-vinyl/34909/). The videos helped a lot. I'm documenting just because as the videos were quite thorough.

My Ex is a 2000 model, no heated seats. Apparently on 2000-2001 Excursions, the drivers side and passenger seat cushions are the same. They are specific to the side in 2002-2005.

.

Unless there is a UNIVERSAL cushion, the Driver and Passenger are not exact, the notch for the seat belt is on the opposite side. At the time I replaced mine only the Driver side was available.

All the difference with a new cushion, though. Enjoy.

Mark, good catch. I was looking at the cushions from a “shape” perspective as the driver and passenger are shaped the same 2000-2001. The notch for the seatbelt is definitely not universal. At first glance I thought the bracket notch on the one side and the seatbelt notch on the other were the same. After looking at my old cushion they are not.

2000-2001

2002-2005. Notice the flat right edge and the extra hog ring clip locations?

I’ll adjust the post above.

I happen to have the OTC master torx set, it was the first time I was ever able to use a torx plus bit

Changed the oil and installed a Fumoto F111S drain valve. The short nipple has a 17mm hex that makes it simple to torque it to the recommended 18.5 Ft-lb (221 in-lb). That was easy!

Dropping the oil filter in the oil drain pan was less easy. Imagine Apollo capsule splashing down in your pan of dirty oil. Should have taken a selfie.

The fancy drain plug is the Fumoto drain valve I just installed. It makes it so you flip a lever to drain the oil instead of taking out a plug and getting oil all over yourself or dropping it into the drain pan. Guys over in the 99-03 7.3L diesel section put me on to them. Actually there is a guy there now who stripped out the threads in his drain pan and this was one of the suggestions after he fixes it.

There really isn't any way for it to accidentally open. You push a lever against a spring and then rotate it sideways. Back when I was "rich" and had an airplane, it had a valve like this. It may have also been a Fumoto, but I can't remember that far back.

For the oil filter splash down...

I use a phillips screwdriver and a hammer. Punch two holes in the bottom of the filter (or one), and then just wait it out while the fumoto does its thing. Then, the filter weighs very little when you go to remove it, and it isn't all oily on the sides from the oil coming over the top as you unscrew it.

I did punch holes. However I only remembered I needed to punch holes after I had I broken the seal and some of the oil seeped over the top and dribbled down. I tightened the filter back up and then punched the holes. I wiped the oil off before trying to actually remove the filter. I still somehow managed to fumble it like a slow motion train wreck. My manual dexterity has definitely decreased as I have aged. I'd call this a 1 in 100 disaster. The holes I punched just let it refill that much faster once it was in its oil bath.

I use a Craftsman awl but same concept. I also wear 2 pairs of the blue rubber golves. I have a large covered pan I use only for the diesel oil. Yes, covered because I once did the exact same thing with the filter and made an oily mess on my brand new driveway.

Not a fan of that drain valve. Had one, gave it away. Takes too long and I didnt like the risk factor.

My fumoto has been on there for about 9 years now. Nothing bad has happened to it yet. It is much slower than the factory plug, but I (like Eric) am getting older and slower...so that is OK. I need more time to roll in and out from under the truck anyway.

between every vehicle I have personally had 1 on, I am at a combined 400k and the longest single is 200k. No worries and the slower drain time is fine. If the oil is hot it still flows plenty fast
