My dealer finally told me that he was notified that the body shop is behind over 1000 trucks, and won't be caught up until the end of December.
IMHO...with that many trucks waiting for a bedliner, FORD should stop building trucks with the optional bedliner listed. Just place it in a queue and keep building all the other SD's on order.
When body shop catches up with the 1000 on hold, then start building the trucks wanting a bedliner.

I'd hate to say it, but that actually makes a lot of sense! ha ha...What in the world are they doing with all the vehicles that keep showing up?
The reason I feel mine is delayed so much is because it was one of the first to arrive, so imagine this: You have a large lot that these vehicles show up to. Mine shows up first and is parked all the way in the back. Then as vehicles show up after they begin to fill up the lot. Well, you can't get my vehicle out because the lot is full of vehicles that have come after mine, and they need to get theirs first in order to get to mine. For you programmers out there, sort of like a stack of items where you can only take the top one off, or add to the stack. At least that is how I am explaining it to myself so I don't go too crazy. Not the best business practice, so there is no way that is accurate, but considering there are those with later build dates getting their sprayed truck before mine, it is all I could come up with.

Sounds good but not that simple.
For example, what if the only orders that Ford has for trucks w/o a bedliner are regular cab, XL, 6.2s?
You are suggesting that Ford not build anything other than bare bones stripper models for 1-2 weeks?
What if only 10% of the order bank includes trucks w/o bedliners? Ford should run the line at 1/10 speed?

That is not a reasonable occurrence...IMHO.
If what you are saying is that 90% of SD's being ordered are with a bedliner, then I would suggest FORD recognize that...and make accommodations in the body shop to be able to meet demand.
My scenario for a work around is more related to a supply or temp issue.
I will bet that the outfitter gets charged by Ford for each truck that is late regardless if it is 1 day late or 30 days late. So they are probably trying to prevent any new lates more so than trying to clean up the backlog. I also wonder if special orders are put to the end of the line. They know we aren't going anywhere.

I am so confused...I had a 10/20 build, then it was released to body for the bed liner, and has been there ever since. My dealer finally told me that he was notified that the body shop is behind over 1000 trucks, and won't be caught up until the end of December. I don't understand how that possibly happens, or how your build 11 days after mine got your bedliner before mine. Surely, there must be some method to the madness.
Hello Ford, want customer loyalty? - how about set up a few more vendors who can spay bedliners.... it's not rocket science to remedy this unacceptable backlog problem!
Well...this may not be completely accurate. I have had an internal struggle of doing something rash like cancelling my order since nobody can give me an updated ETA. We both know that is probably a ridiculous thing to think, but this isn't a $20,000 Focus we are talking about...it's a $75,000 SD and it seems to have been pushed aside with nobody paying attention. The only consolation is knowing that other people are in the same boat as me and I'm not simply the only one that slid through the cracks.

I would agree. It's kind of like my old bartender analogy. When the bar owner is too cheap and only hires one bartender on a busy night, he saves the second employee's small hourly pay. He then looses the second, third, fourth, or whatever drink the person was going to order but couldn't get their order in. Penny wise and pound foolish my grandparents would say....

Agree with this 100%. And the funny thing is that nobody in the chain of people we can talk to (dealer, dealer's rep, Ford customer service, chat) can give us an update. Nobody has any information, only that it has been released to the body shop.
Option 2: Allow retail customers that ordered bedliners who don't want big time delays to chose to ship their trucks without it and credit them???
That makes sense to me as well Dave. Things that make sense to us at the consumer level, often don't to those at the corporate level though. It would likely be a paperwork headache at both the corporate and dealer level.

I tried this. I asked everyone. Everyone said this isn't an option. The truck is basically built. We can't go in and change/delete options. We are pass that point of making changes.

I was using those extreme examples and percentages to demonstrate a point. I have no idea what the product mix is.
But scheduling production weeks in advance is not as easy as flipping a switch.
Ford cannot book the revenue until the truck ships. Those 1000 trucks sitting are dead inventory to Ford until they ship. I suspect midnight oil is being burned trying to figure out how to ship them as fast as they can.
Mark Fields gets crucified at quarterly results meetings if Ford does not hit its number. And I mean by even a penny or two. Shipping SDs is crucial to Ford hitting its number.
