Very nice Tim.
Good call on reworking it. You'd be surprised how much bushings and motor mounts deflect when your giving it the business off road. I have more room than that on my jeep but still have acquired a witness mark on my pan from the axle.

I got the oil pan welded up today. I can't say I did a great job, but it shouldn't leak.

The Ugly weld, I had a problem and had to do a second pass.

The drain plug turned out the best!

Thanks Andre, If all the welds looked like the drain plug weld I would ecstatic. The way it is, I'm happy but at the same time disappointed with my welding skills.

I hope you put a dent in the oil pan in some epic off road manuver and the welds hold. Make it yours. Don't make it perfect! It looks freaking amazing buddy and YOU did it!

Tim,

It looks great! Don't let perfection get in the way of done. Done is a great place to live, driving and loving the Bronco.

Thanks for posting the pictures.

So now that the pan has been welded and appears to not have any interference issues. Moving on to the next problem. The timing chain cover bolt holes don't line up with the front two holes of the pan. I have one cover that lines up perfect, but it is the wrong cover. In the old days I would have enlarged the holes in the pan and used some hard washers, bolted it up and called it good. But now that I have the equipment and the knowledge, I think I will just relocate the holes in the cover.

Here is the lineup of the front bolt holes.

The cover on the right is the one I am going to use. Explorer front cover.

The Explorer front cover. The bolt holes are .07815 (just over a 1/16th of an inch) further forward then the standard cover.

The standard front cover.

I turned a couple of aluminum studs to loctite into the cover.

Here is what it looks like before drilling and tapping new holes.

I decided to drill and tap the holes in the cover to 3/8", I turned a couple of aluminum studs and used Red Loctite to secure them. I then drilled and tapped back to 5/16" at the new location. It appears that it worked out really well.
