So far I'm loving it! But would anyone have any ideas what would be causing a lot of smoke on a 'cold' startup (it's only been low 50's)? If any of you saw my video I posted a couple months ago in the OT thread, it's nowhere near as bad, but I was expecting it to be much better with the new injectors and replacing the two bad GPs. I thought my main issue was the injector orings which I knew were bad because oil was getting in the fuel.
So all new injectors, all GPs and relay are good, it fires pretty quickly with no extended cranking, but still pretty smoky. What gives?
All but one have been replaced in the last couple years; I replaced 4 back in 2011 and 3 this last go around. They all tested roughly the same resistance and the tips looked good; no wear.
Well, the last oil leak that I can't seem to stop is the damn dipstick adapter. I think it's actually coming out the dipstick tube and not around the pan. I really want to get that fixed but I refuse to buy the $300 gold piece. I'll make my own or pull the whole dang engine before that. Anyone have one that they haven't installed yet and could maybe get me some measurements?
The dip stick tube has an o-ring around the tube that seals the tube to the adapter. The tube will pull out of the adapter if you remove the clamp up by the valve cover. If you are sure that the adapter is sealed to the pan, the o-ring may need replacing.
drain pan and leave plug out with pan to catch the last drops
wait five days for oil to stop dripping (some say this works well when resealing pan in truck)
Insert long wire brush into bung to prevent it from falling in
remove nut on bung
remove oring with a pick
spray non oil solvent on bung and wipe inside of pan best as possible with qtips and possibly roughen any surface with sand paper and clean again
carefully apply ford oil pan grey sealant to bung and attach nut with in 2 minutes
I am hoping it should seal it as well as an intake reseal does
I install one of these bad boys on my work truck, Its an expensive part but boy is it worth it, and its cool because next time if an oil sprungs the O rings can easily be access and replaced.

I just can't see $300 worth of aluminum there. But if someone has some measurements, I could probably get one of the machinists at work to help me make one. Plus I've got this idea of eliminating the oring on the dipstick tube by threading the adapter and using a compression fitting. Hmmm.

With the angles etc I can't see measuring enough to make it by remote control. I have absolutely NO regrets spending that money. I'm a diy guy but something's I'm just like yea I'm spending the $$..not reinventing that wheel at thus time.
