Yes, yes it is! If you follow the Chilton's manual, you'll never get it done. I read this thread and there are about 10 different people with 10 different ways that worked for them. I think I tried a little of each and maybe a little of my own.
Well, got the clutch bled so I could take it for a drive. Aaaawwwweeesome! Two things I know... 1. I need get the IC pipes done now and 2. I need to get my chip reburned for the new injectors to clean up the smoke.
I forgot to have Jim throw one of his heater hose brackets in with the injectors, so... DIY bracket. It's not as cool, but it will do what it's suppose to.
Started working on the IC pipes today. I'm starting with a set of '99 aluminum pipes. I got the passenger pipe cut up and started, and used a 3 inch piece from it on the drivers pipe. I just ordered a 2' 180° bend to finish the passenger pipe. I'm just getting them tacked together with my mig welder and then I'll take them to a guy at work to tig them up for me.
I'm also going to need to modify the AFE box that goes around the air filter so that the IC pipe will fit. Gonna make some calls in the morning and hopefully have my chip in the mail for a reburn. I originally bought the chip from Power Hungry so I'll give them a call first but I think I'll call Gearhead too.
I may have to steal that really cool bracket idea! Nice work!
Thanks. I had the ubolt hanging around from a steering stabilizer kit. I used nylock nuts so that they wouldn't loosen up since you can't tighten them too much without pinching the hose. It does a really good job of keeping the hose away from the idler pulley and off the alternator.
Yep, I've had the intercooler for about 3 years and it has been mounted on the truck for about 2 years, just no pipes. I'm working on the pipes now.
That sounds like something I would do haha
Unless you had the inlet/outlet of the ic covered these last two years, you might want to try and clean it before you start sucking cob webs and small critters through your turbo
I'm going to have to get use to the new clutch; I don't know if it's the new diaphram or if I still have some air in the line, but the pedal is much softer than it use to be. Shifts just fine though, so I'm sure I'll get use to it pretty quick.
I called PHP and they charge $300 to reburn a TS6 chip and they only do all six tunes. Really! So if I need to change things up a couple years down the road, it's another $300. A new Hydra is only $375-400 and I can order one tune at a time. Sounds like they are trying to force people away from the TS6 chip. I'm going to give gearhead a call tomorrow, but looking at their site has me believing they're about the same. I was really hoping to only get 3-4 tunes since my stock tune and high idle work fine. Any other suggestions?
