Off topic but you guys seem really informed on the new Superduty so I'm going to ask 2 questions......

1. What are the hp/torque #'s while under this de-rated status?

2. When towing up a steep grade and your truck downshifts from 4th into 3rd does the 6.7 diesel still give you the rated hp/torque 440/925 or does that # decrease as it does on take off in gears 1,2,& 3??
I don't know the exact answers, but I might be able to help. First off, horsepower is not limited...just torque. Ford states the reason is to prevent spinning. At 2800 RPM in 1st gear, you'll be making full horsepower.

Duallys (350 and 450) are only limited in 1st gear. In second gear, they receive full torque. This does coincide with Ford's statement regarding wheel spin. The dually obviously puts down a larger contact patch and can withstand more torque without spinning.

During a "normal" take-off, you'll never know the torque is de-rated. The de-rating occurs during wide-open throttle take-off through the gears.

Downshifting, I'm not sure...but I suspect there is a de-rating.

You have to understand this is not an uncommon strategy. I believe Ford does it now, and RAM certainly does it. Some folks say it is to protect the transmissions, but I'm not sure given Ford's differentiation between DRW / SRW trucks. What I do know is that the transmission in the diesel is called the 6R140. That code translates to 6 forward speeds, longitudinal orientation, and a maximum of 1400 lb-ft of torque at the transmission input shaft.

How long will it take to get a VIN? Ordered a Superduty CC, SB, Diesel platinum package on 8/16 and dealer (Seminole Ford in Seminole, OK) placed on 8/23.

Makes sense on the trans numbers. I know on our larger trucks the torque #'s are used in the trans # as well i.e. 18918 is an 18 speed rated at 1800 torque etc...Thank You for the help. My concern isn't on take off, who drives with their foot on the floor on take off anyhow, but more of a concern while pulling steep grades loaded and the truck downshifts into the lower gears. My current, well sold last week, Superduty is the 02 w/7.3 and would be down in 1st gear 25mph climbing some of the big hills here on the west coast such as the Grapevine or Cuesta grade on the coastline Hwy 101.

The dealer has the Vehicle Visibility Report. As you can see, it is excellent tracking information. If you call your dealer, most will tell you the latest update. It literally takes them two minutes or less to find out. They simply enter the order #.

EDIT: The problem lies in the fact that sometimes people are placed at great inconvenience by not receiving timely orders. For example, I sold my truck based upon a reasonable ETA. That ETA is going to be off several weeks. I no longer have an HD truck capable of hauling my largest trailer, which is going to impact my work in a few weeks if the new truck does not arrive.
You are correct. My dealer is stumped as far as an update. Chat is most probably the best info I got so far.

It could take up to a month, depending on if they Ordered Dealer Stock or Retail.

I'm not sure on the VIN.

Go over to TFL Truck and watch the video of the 2017 F-450 pulling 30k up the IKE gauntlet. That's pretty much the steepest grade of any distance in the country, and it really never got below 40mph and never dropped below 3rd gear.

A SRW truck is going to be towing less, and probably can maintain 4th gear or better most of the time.

The TFL Truck site also recently tested the highest output RAM 3500 dually, same 30k weight, same route. It was a full minute slower than the Ford, staying in 2nd gear and 30mph for a lot of the grade.

There is no doubt that the Super Duty, right now, is the best towing machine on the planet.

I've watched the video and it is impressive to say the least. I saw the new SD at SEMA Convention in Vegas last year Nov 6th for the first time and have been chasing that truck ever since! Watched every video available and went to the drive event when it came out to the west coast. I was sold on an F150 and keeping my 7.3 UNTIL i saw they were going to use the same cab on the 17 model. My 02 bought new for $38k and this new truck is double the price 15 years later so the price is hard to swallow but they are great trucks.

As for the RAM, I almost bought one until I learned their claimed 900 torque #'s were ONLY if you paid extra $3k to get the AISIN trans and not on every diesel pickup. All of the new trucks have great power but I'll stick to the Ford product! AND its built here in the USA for now and not in Mexico like Dodge and GM.

Been towing 30-35k lbs for years with my SRW F250 via gooseneck or 5th wheel hitch with my old 7.3 well above its rating but perfectly capable. I cant wait to put the new truck in front of my largest trailer and hit the road with it!

Now get to play the waiting game with the rest of you guys I guess. My local dealer has a Platinum coming in a week they are saying but we'll see! I ordered mine with the PTO option to run VMAC and have it concealed under the truck.

Whoooh...that's a ton of weight for a 7.3L. The new truck should have no trouble. I think you'll be very happy.

It annoys me how RAM plays the output game with their 6.7L as well. Manual trans is 350/650. 68RFE trans is a little more. Finally, the extra cost Aisin delivers the 385/900.

Ford (and GM) give you the same rating throughout.

It really is too much weight for it but not due to lack of power like you may think. Braking ability on the old 2002 just isn't adequate for that much weight. I had a 2010 F250, same truck as the 02 but had much larger brakes. My 2000 model F550 with the 19.5's is MUCH better for stopping but its got a service bed and a 5000lb crane on one side so it weighs 17k by itself before hooking anything to kit. I really was undecided on my order for the new truck. Wanted an F450 for its capabilities but don't want the dually when not towing. Notice my profile pic is the 450......Drove the Platinum 450 in Anaheim 2 weeks ago and man was it nice! Im hoping the engine braking along with the bigger brakes for 17 on the 250 will suffice!

The exhaust brake is fabulous. It really does most of the long downhills by itself. That, plus the bigger brakes will be a win for you.
