A friend of mine lives up there. They got sent north to evacuate. Took them 11 hours to drive 63 kms, with two adults, three cats and two dogs in the car. But they made it. Who knows if they have a house to go back to.
Another week coming with little to no rain in sight.
Remember folks, you can donate through your cell phone service provider, goes onto your phone bill, Red Cross for long term relief and various local organizations for immediate relief
Be carefull as there are scammers going door to door canvassing for money, nobody legit has a door to door campaign happening.
To the group of Syrian Refugees that got together and helped out with donations and supplies, Thanks for being Canadian, we're proud your one of us.
Be careful if you open your home to single males as a lot of them are Drop in Center quality.
Have a good day every one and do a rain dance.
It'll be on his favorite network, CBC. I was surfing the radio and he was making another one of his grand speeches about Calgary coming to the rescue. We did our part but we were 4th in line, the good folks fromEdmonton north bore the brunt of this disaster and in my books the credit goes their way and we should be grateful to have the honor of participating in helping out. Especially when you see where the oil companies are head quartered at.
Those are pictures of what it must look like to be taking a trip through hell John.
Being from southern MB, I got used to going to the west bank of the Red River 3 years out of 5 and spending a couple of days sand bagging. Winnipeggers knew how to look after them selves and a lot of them worked their way south looking for spots where they could help out. The smaller communities always need help due to a lack of population. No Winnipeg Mayor ever gathered volunteers at Polo Park and put them on a Winnipeg only program. This Calgary flood turned into a poser fest for the cameras and a picnic in the Inglewood / Ramsey area while High River drowned without equipment and no where near enough people to save anything. But Nenshi sure looked and sounded good and got a landslide election win. The mayor of High River got crapped on and lost his election. The Siksika got it even worse.
Whats sad is I never even heard anything about Siksika. Granted I was working up north at the time and not in Airdrie much. Nenshi, mayor of the people as long as the people have money!
The highway from Calgary to Okotoks was almost empty, yet there was lots of equipment coming from Okotoks to Calgary. From Okotoks to High River the traffic sure picked up. With all the contractors and construction companies inCalgary this town should have been self sufficient. High River rentals was flooded out so it was what ever the farmers had on hand.
