Now I remember why I dislike working on 2wd trucks, makes for getting the front bumper a PITA.

Give me a 4WD any day, all that for this....

Was wondering just how versatile these hydroboost systems were. I've noticed that people are pulling them from a variety of vehicles and bolting them to their trucks. I think that maybe I'm more concerned with compatability and brake bias. When I bought the 88 f450 the hydroboost was 1 reason for buying it and another was the disc braked Sterling rear axle with 19.5" rims. Being a dually rear I have a weight bias concern also, thats a standard concern that most work trucks have. There must be hydroboost systems to avoid and I'm a bit curious as to which ones they are.

A proportioning valve is still required. I'm planning on installing it on my F-250 since it's gonna be a tow rig and will need all the help with brakes, I've already spied required metric to AN adapter fittings (M18x1.5 to AN6 and M16x1.5 to AN6) is about $14 each.

If you're gonna go hunting get the "straight" unit off a 94-95 Astro or diesel F250/F350. Newer SDs may also have it so check'em while hunting. Newer Astros/Safari unit is angled downwards and compensated with an angled MC reservoir.

Some have expressed concern about losing boosted brakes if the engine stalls or a PS belt breaks. For me the main issue is additional hydraulic lines that could leak. I'm okay with the trade-off.

I'm used to cube vans and f350 drw and up work trucks so the main thing I was worried about was the weight bias adjuster that's attached to the rear axle and frame. That helped make my parts truck search a bit more limited but I scored a low mileage 88 f450 that had the drive train I needed from the fan to the tires, plus an electric dual cylinder hydraulic lift. there was also a ton of steel for future projects. Now to find some 36" tall 19.5" rubber at a reasonable price as I need 6 of them. I'm sticking with 16"s in front but want the stance and fuel economy the 19.5s will give.

This weight bias stuff can be a pita if its set up to come in to early and can be hard on trailer brakes if it comes in to late. I wonder if there is a dual pulley, belt system that can be rigged up to give some redundancy to the steering pump.

The motor was set up with the RV cam, performer intake, msd coil and ignition system parts, older big port heads, hardened seats, but its on propane.

I haven't had time or a chance to wrench on or drive/enjoy the 74 in over two weeks now... it just sits in the garage waiting.

Reset my timing to where it was supposed to be, hot cranks much better and sounds like a sewing machine.

I'd rather buy a bag of pre popped popcorn, grab a pair of gloves and take a walk down to the river and just strangle one of the noisy bast**ds. Would help maintain the stress valve Rich. LoL

Went with a friend to assist on an elk hunt in Meeteetse, Wyoming last week. There was a kazillion rabbits there and we ate plenty of them. I whacked a coyote @ 275 yards with my 22BR.

Guys I was hunting with are not mobile so the elk won. Next year I'll have an elk tag.

Figures....150 yards away.

These guys were 30 yards off the road.

For my wife.
