2003 Expedition/Navigator - Accumulation of brake dust on the wheels
"Under regular operating conditions, customers may notice accumulation of brake dust on the wheels of their 2003 Expedition/Navigator vehicles. Some amount of brake dust is inevitable as brakes wear. Dust can be cleaned by weekly washing with motorcraft detail wash (zc-3-a) and a soft sponge. Heavier deposits can be removed with motorcraft wheel and tire cleaner (zc-37-a). A low-dust service brake lining (pad) is being developed via the quicker service fix (QSF) process for customers who may find this accumulation objectionable. The new lining is expected to be available durring the late fourth quarter of 2003. Do not replace any components in an attempt to address this condition in the interm untill the new lining is available."
--The above is a quote from Oasis.
I'm at work now, when I get home I will scan this page in and post it...for any who want to present it to a dealer.

They way I read this is that they don't have a fix for the problem yet, but may late in the fourth quarter of this year.

Got a call from Ford customer srv today after complaining on the Ford website about the brake dust problem. The rep. said they were developing new pads, but couldn't confirm or commit whether it would be a no charge replacement. Customers should'nt have to pay to replace faulty or sub-standard parts on new vehicles, and anyone that speaks to Ford should let them know.
I was in for 5000 ml service on my 2003 EB recently, and mentioned to the service advisor that I was unhappy with the brake dust problem. After appr 10 min of back and forth, he telling me that if there is a recall Ford will notify me, and me letting him know I spoke to Ford customer srv. and they said to have service dpt note my dismay, the service manager stepped in and acknowleged a problem and noted on my record that when pads were available they would be replaced under warranty.
NOT EASY.
I was in for service today, and the dealer didn't have anything yet. I checked Alldata, and they don't have anything yet either. Maybe later this winter. Just out of curiosity, how far back do you guys clean your rims. It seems difficult to clean much further than just past the "spokes" Is it necessary to clean the entire rim surface? Is a spray the best thing?
While your waiting for the new pads, someone here recommended Mcguires rim cleaner. I tried it and it works pretty good. I meen it get the rib clean with a little rub with a brush.
It's dirty again in 5 miles tho, and the stains on my running boards and cement driveway are making me mental.
