2015 TENNESSEE EVERYTHING THREAD
Didn't fire off though, even with starting fluid. I'm guessing all of the grounds and some of the other wires have degraded from sitting so long.
And I think I was right about the throttle body and it's single injector. Before I dump a kennedy or two into that I'm going to make sure it turns over right.
And those lifts are impressive. If I had a garage......
I haven't watched a single moment of any of the basketball tournaments. I just haven't gotten into them this year.
I've been enjoying the back yard with the grandkids the past few days...I think I'm actually going to have to mow the yard this weekend. I was hoping it would wait until April....almost made it.
Have a great Wednesday, everybody!
Got clean fuel running up to and touching, but it won't even make it to the pressure regulator built into the throttle body.
The diagram I am looking at right now shows a banjo fitting that prolly has a filter in it, then a filter surrounding the fuel injector (01/EA), and then a fuel channel connects to the regulator.
~Any blockage along the way, and you got nothin'...
I took the pressure regulator apart, and the well in it was bone dry.
BUT!
~It cranks over now with a good deal of authority.
~It didn't explode when the fuel pump ran.
~It runs until it uses up a shot of starting fluid, which means that not only did I get the valve timing right when I changed the timing belt way back when, but that the ignition system is working.
This was todays doin's:

Because steel screws are threaded into an alloy casting, and the factory used blue loctite on the threads, getting these screws out without destroying them all is a challenge.
It's soaking up penetrating lube for now...
This is kind of a "YOU GOTTA FIX IT" scenario, because replacement throttle bodies for these cars are no longer available anywhere. They were discontinued when the manufacturer figured nobody cared about them anymore. The Metro, Swift, Sprint, and Poncho Firefly were poorly received in the USA except by tree-huggers and just plain low buck people.
In Japan itself, they have taxes that increase the older a car or other vehicle is, so that after a few years the taxes on an older vehicle force Japanese people to junk them.
'Thing of it is, these days EVERYONE is feeling the bite of crippling fuel prices, and a tiny little car with all the comforts is the deal of the day. 40+ MPG, WITH air conditioning?
Hell yeah, GIMMEE ONE!
* I refuse to put a carburettor on this thing instead of EFI because after all I went through to drop the tank and hunt down the correct fuel pump it would be a crime against MYSELF.
I'd sure rather drive it, than give it to CHINA
Going to have to bring a Rosemary plant inside tonight before the cold weekend. Everyone have a great day and stay dry and WARM.
I find myself liking this TBI setup, now that I'm over the hard part. I went out to the shop and tracked down some small screws I horded when I was an IMA tech for NAVAIR.
All the new stuff is stainless, and I picked up on a tip for these TBI units for the future:
The screws are all loctited from the factory, which is why they are a pain to remove.
The solution is to heat up the screws WITH A SOLDERING IRON OR GUN.
~This applies heat in just that place, melting the loctite and making them turnable

There's a bit more I have to do - and Yeah... the injector was gooped. Time to trash it and replace it.
The next thing I want to know is where I put my roll of safety wire.
