Wow, I didn't realize how long it's been since I posted here. Been pretty busy, went to the F100 Supernationals where I sold a bunch of parts, and met up with Mitch, but disappointed that I didn't sell the 56 F100. I bought another 'project' last month, a 1951 F1 which I am in the process of tearing down. All the fenders were like Swiss cheese with about 100 pounds of bondo caked on them. The P.O. a board member from Indiana had started on the truck and bought a bunch of new parts including new fiberglass fenders for the front. While at Lebanon, I made a deal for new rear fenders and a complete new bed kit.
The P.O. had the truck for about 5 years but never had the flathead running, so I enjoyed the smile on his face when I got it fired up and purring just before I loaded it up. The wife wants an automatic, so after realizing that it will cost me $2k-2500 to put a good AOD behind it, I am considering selling the flathead and installing a 4.9L (300) six from a 94 Econoline I bought for parts. It has about 300K on it and I believe the timing gear went out on it. It's attached to an E4OD that the guy said he never had any problems with. Since I paid $400 for the van, which I am using for parts storage, I figured the engine and tranny were free. I know that I can get a rebuilt long block for about $1500 and them spend a couple hundred to freshen up the tranny. The sale of the Flathead should cover most of that cost.
Harleymsn....sounds like you had a good trip. I wanted to get there but wasn't able to swing it.
Sounds like everyone has been keeping busy. I've been extremely crunched at work, and then we've been watching the grandkids quite a bit. Haven't had a ton of computer time.
Today is a great day for relaxing and catching up.
