It was really nice of them to call!!

Lets hope the crews get the lines redone SOON!!!

I'm sitting here just waiting on the power to go off, we have 4 inches of really WET snow and more coming down, it looks like it will snow for about 3 more hours, so 4" in 4½ hrs means we should end up with about 7 inches after it is over. everything is already at a standstill as far as road travel is concerned..

I think our only saving grace is there is no wind right now, if the wind was whipping around like it was a day or so ago the power would be history by now..

Stay warm everyone!!!!

Propane seems to be the way to go for generators. Basically indefinite shelf life. Bought a Honda eU200i several years back. Haven't needed to use it very often but it's a lifesaver when it is. One trick that works for seldom used equipment, store it with Naptha in the tank (Coleman fuel or Blazo) it will not sour or gum or turn to varnish.

Does FEMA or the power company do anything about the cost? It isn't as if you took a sudden trip to Walt Disney World...

Well at 2:30 AM it is pretty much over and I ended up with 7¼ inches, and I still have power!!! The funniest part of this whole mess was when my dear departed's Pomeranian who is 11 inches at the shoulder jumped off the back porch to go potty and when he landed there was about three inches of him above the snow, wish I had a camera about then, I've never seen a panic look like that one from a dog before!!!!

Stay warm and safe, I think it's safe to hit the hay now.....

I got about 7" at the estate. All the snow on the sidewalks and streets has melted, but there will be some slick spots forming later tonight.

Everyone stay warm and safe.

Pretty clear here. Had about 1-2" this morning. The kids are having school tomorrow. They haven't been in almost two weeks.

Well, I called around Knoxville again this morning and Harbor freight had one generator but refused to hold it till I could get there. I did finally find one in Oak Ridge that I will be picking up in the morning. Funny, after these guys said last night about Fema cleaning up the brush, the county Emergency Manager did a PSA this morning warning folks about 'contractors' charging homeowners for cleanup and then leaving the brush by the roadside for fema or other government agencies to pick up. What he said was, that NO government agency was going to pick up any of it and the homeowners could be fined for putting it there.
We got 2" of snow here in town, talked to my neighbor, we got 4" at the house.
We will check out of the hotel in the morning and head home, with a new generator we will have power, but no internet.

The coming week looks to hold a lot of rainfall - and I mean A LOT. I was just out looking at what I have to do about possibly the final stage of the brush clearing/de-junglization at my place and I spotted what I think is another dang grapevine farther along, and well into the "IVY ZONE" that I have to get to before spring turns things green and tangly again.

I have a new tool now, a pole saw that extends to around 12 feet, and collapses to six. It's another electric chain saw, but with a shorter bar. Should be an interesting toy to play with.

But the coming week appears to be a literal "wash" even though it will be warmer (or at least it is thought to be going to be). Thunderstorms are a factor in the trend, and high winds will likely play havoc here.

I also found that a Kawi 125 engine I had set off to the side for a later project lost the cover I put on the intake somehow, and the internals have all rusted to crap! Ticked me off, that's for sure. There goes another asset... I should have put it in the shop, but things in my little bitty shop have higher priorities than old junked bikes.

The best news is that in the last few days this crummy chest cold or flu has let up off of me quite a bit. Nice not to gurgle when I breathe... I heard that in some folks it turned into walking pneumonia. It may actually have in me, but I bombed it with vitamin C and every other remedy I could think of, plus I had the option to bed down and ride it out.

Now all I need is for the weather to let off, the winds to die down, everything to dry out some, and I'll be back to business.

February is a month that almost every time around leaves my calendar with a lot of notes written in red ink. Once I get this homestead running the way I always wanted it to, the second month of the year might be a prime one to grab Woola and run away to California or someplace every year.

Turn off the power, lock all the doors, pack a lot of camping gear and not come back until it isn't miserable back home...

Come to think of it, I always wanted to go gold panning, or gem hunting in the southwest.

JOE: We'll be looking forward to hearing from you in about a week to ten days then. Meantime do you have a phone number for one of us here to let us know if you need a hand or are in trouble?

What, exactly, are you waiting for? For my part always thought traveling at least some of old route 66 would be fun.
