I think he's just talking about the little arch that goes across the top, not the whole top 1/2 of the fan shroud. It only takes about 20 seconds to get off with a small screwdriver and makes getting to the belt tensioner MUCH easier.

So you guys completely removed the deflector and stator?
Got any pics for curiosity sake of that looks like?
Our F550 pump trucks at work do not have the stators installed since there are belt driven PTO pumps etc mounted up front.
Josh
I'll try to get some pic's. When the stator goes the deflector goes with it. I couldn't tell any difference in cooling. Lots of folks on the .Org have done it. Sure makes it nice to swap anything on the front of the motor and no special tool required to get to the belt tensioner.

Cars haven't used stators in 100 years to assist cooling, kind of a funky contraption either way.
Although I did a tune up on a Mazda 3 the other day and it has ducting to cool the battery.
I know that when I went to do my alternator and belt the first thing I did was cut the upper air deflector off with my Dremel. That made it WAY easier to get to the belt tensioner and alternator. I'm thinking of removing my fan stator as well.

it just clips on. 20 second removal with a thin screwdriver. it's a **** if you don't know how though.
I should do a survey on how still have that little piece of plastic
in place and if it's going if they have had any early alternator
failure. That puppy can get hot fast and with less air flow I
am not sure. The deflector is not that hard to remove and
place back on.

Ain't that the truth...It probably took me 20 minutes to get it off between looking at it and a small screwdriver and saying WTF am I supposed to do with a small screwdriver. After seeing the tabs and how it snaps on it took about a minute to get off....
