Yeah sorry I get that part, but I'm just wondering the effects of the indirect injection chamber.
Like on a direct injected diesel, you lower compression, and the injector is still spraying fuel into the air.

In the IDI, if the combustion is reduced, the spray isn't injected into all the air, only the air in the pre-chamber or swirl chamber. Is it just that it exits the chamber and then finishes burning once mixing with the rest of the air?

The pre cup is where the fuel starts burning yes...Then the jet of burning fuel shoots out and is deflected into the recardo cups by the curved depression in the top of the piston where it finishes the combustion of the fuel in a larger area on top of the piston. Cooler air in the combustion area expands more and holds more oxygen so it releases more power. That's why intercoolers make more power and reduce EGT's.

A little update, my clutch and fuel sender got here today, so tonight I'm going to pick up my transmission, and Sunday going to the jy to get the transmission tunnel and pedal assembly. Then this week hopefully I can get a transmission in and driveshafts made.

On another note the turbo should be here tomorrow, and I have to wait till I get the tranny in to make my piping. Do any of you know of a good 3" builders kit, I'm thinking steel so I can weld it here at home. I don't have a reliable source for rig welding close to home.

sweet that's exactly what I was looking for, probably get the ultimate builder, woukdnt hurt to have some extra bends around for random stuff. The hardest part is going to be finding 5" stuff for the exhaust

Only problem I see is the transfer case behind the ZF6 doesn't have a speedometer gear, its electronic, and iirc Diesel Brad ran into the same issue, and said you can't mount the old transfer case on the new tranny atleast without some work. a 92-up speedo picks it off a VSS sensor on the rear axle, where the pre 92- use a cable. Not trying discourage you Austin, just trying to help.

True enough, and yes the ZF5 t-case wont work on a ZF 6 as the 6 has a larger output shaft. the Input on the t-case may be able to be swapped but i have no idea and probably doubt that they would. I ran into this when looking at a 6 but wanted to keep my NP205

There is an electronic adapter that reads off of vss in the rear end or in the transmission, and converts it to mechanical.

This is one of the higher end units http://www.abbott-tach.com/cablex.htm

IMO the intake heater is better than GPs because there is only one and it heats the whole intake not just the cylinder... well pre-cup in fact.
With glow plugs. I may even cycle them 2 or even 3 times if very cold and I am caught unprepared and don't have it plugged in. I normally use an oil pan heater pad w/ the stock block heater, but have tested it down to -25 w/glow plug assist. No way w/out properly functioning glow plugs.

That's awesome that you're doing a ZF6! Ll'lI be watching. There's a thread here somewhere on that subject. You probably have already read it. I'm planning on doing a ZF6 swap in future also.

I am getting my zf Wednesday or Thursday. Ended up finding one 8 hours away near St Louis, but it just so happens that my uncle lives 15 minutes from there and is coming up for thanksgiving! So it all worked out and he is leaving illinois Wednesday morning.

That being said I want the transmission in before I start on building my turbo kit, because the drivers side manifold is crossing over the transmission bellhouse. I would go in front of the motor but I just don't see how Racin crammed it up there! And I don't see why the way I'm doing it won't work. I think all I need to order is some 3" mild steel bends, boots, a t4 flange and clamps! I can't wait to hear her whistle for the first time ever!
