Looking into a '68 F600 and would appreciate some help.
F60BRC651**
Which I believe gets me
F600
2wd
gas 300 I6 HD
San Jose, CA
December 1967
174" WB
81a cab (or b, can't remember)
A Trans
20000 gvw
136hp @ 3600 (seems low?) Maybe 156, the guy had a hard time reading it to me with a bad connection.
It currently has a 300 I6 and NP435 with a single speed square tube Rockwell style rear which is the important code that has me stumped is the axle code: 64b
I think that means it is a 15k Rockwell (ratio?) and 7k front?
I had more digits but my document crashed and did not recover, these were in my search history.
Thank you in advance!

Howdy,

I bought a 1966 C700 yesterday - well, put a deposit until my friend & I can pick it up. Trying to figure out some info on it. The data plate was painted over and later wire-wheeled, but the stampings are all readable, at least. Seller said it's a Franklin 5 speed, but from my research on this site, L trans is a Clark direct 5 speed. And 4th digit D is 330HD 2V. I haven't found info on 9Q axle, yet. Thanks in advance for your help!

Awesome, thank you for the help! The seller thought it was a '66, but I was doing some VIN research earlier and noticed the serial number is '67, and of course you confirmed that, as well. The title is missing but VIN comes up clean, so I need to do a lost/bonded title. I'll have to get a Marti Report sometime.

You may not be able to get a Marti Report because you have a 500 and larger series truck.

While Marti (a Mustang/Shelby 'nut' in Phoenix AZ) has all the 1967/79 FoMoCo records, when someone here on FTE tried to get one for his 500 and larger series truck (I forget what it was), Marti said he couldn't help him.

The records were all on paper and when Marti computerized them, he may not have bothered with the 500 and larger series trucks, because the demand would be slight.

Dang, that's kinda disappointing, although I understand the low market demand. It would have been neat to find out original purchaser since this truck was special ordered. As shown in the pic, there's yellow paint under the current Seafoam Green & White two-tone, but I don't know yet if there's other layers below the yellow even. Oh well.

A Marti Report is a copy of the original FoMoCo build sheet.

It will have the dealers name/location that the vehicle was ordered by, but it will not have the name or location of the original owner.

This truck was ordered from the Jacksonville FL district office, so at some point...it made its way to TX assuming that's where you are buying it, since you live there.

I have Spectrum (formerly Time/Warner) so I can watch all the Dodger games I want to.

When the Dodgers came to L/A in 1958, some of the games were broadcast on KTTV Channel 11 that was owned back then by the Los Angeles Times. Now it's owned by Fox.

Walter O'Malley, the Dodgers owner, was a cheapskate. He didn't broadcast too many games on TV, because he wanted people to come and pay to watch the games in person, originally at the Coliseum, then beginning in 1962 at Dodger Stadium.

When Dodger Stadium opened, there were only 7 drinking fountains in the entire stadium, because O'Malley wanted people to buy soft drinks and beer, not drink free water.

When the Angels played at Dodger Stadium (they called the park Chavez Ravine), Gene Autry, owner of the Angels, said that O'Malley charged him 1/2 the price for the supplies they used, including rolls of toilet paper!

D61 = C600 Tilt Cab Diesel (C6000 is a C600 w/a diesel engine).

U = Caterpillar model 150 522 cid 8 cylinder diesel.

U = Louisville KY Assembly Plant.

D14797 = 1968.

153" Wheelbase.

COLOR: Blank.*

MODEL: D610 = C600 Tilt Cab (diesel); 21,000 lbs. GVWR

BODY 4 91: 4 = Black all Vinyl; 91 = 91A Standard Cab Tilt Cab (as opposed to 91B Custom Cab Tilt Cab).

TRANS M: Clark model 285V 5 Speed Direct.

AXLE C? = I cannot decode this rear axle code, because the 2nd digit is under the rivet.

21,000 lbs. Gross Vehicle Weight Rating.

137 net HP @ 3,200 RPM

730069:

73 = Salt Lake City UT Ford District Sales Office, where the original selling dealer ordered the truck from.

0069 = Domestic Special Order number, truck was special ordered by the original purchaser, not "bought off the lot."

*When there is no COLOR code stamped on the Warranty Plate, the truck was painted a non standard color per the original purchasers request.

This makes the truck a Domestic Special Order.

Note: Compare the VIN on the Warranty Plate to the VIN on the title/registration to see if they match.

Warranty Plate riveted to the left door face below the latch. Some people replaced damaged left doors with used doors.

But, 99.9% of the time, they failed to install the original Warranty Plates on the replaced doors.
