11 digit Vin decode
#91
4th digit of the VIN is the engine code.
L = Michigan Truck Assembly Plant.
A35709 = 1967 .. assembled October 1966.
With the engine code having a blank space, the truck was a Domestic Special Order, as the engine installed was not an RPO (Regular Production Order).
Domestic Special Order parts were not listed in parts catalogs, so it any of the parts were required, the dealer contacted FoMoCo with the VIN and the DSO's 6 digit number (stamped on the 3rd line-far right of the Warranty Plate).
This may have been a diesel or who knows? The only way to find out...today, is by passing your VIN and some bucks to martiauto.com to get a copy of your P Series' original build sheet.

See post 93.
And btw, inre to your comment in post 90: Since 11/04/2006, I've spent an average of 8 to 10 hours a day here on FTE helping members, and...
Since I've typed over 59,000 posts during this time frame, every so often I like to take some time off...as it has become very tiresome doing this jazz...that I don't get paid a cent for.
Plus, over the past 3 weeks, we've been having internet problems with Time/Warner Cable here on our street. They've been here twice to fix the damn thing, but it still isn't working correctly.
I'd dump Time/Warner in a NY minute, but because they made a 18 BILLION DOLLAR deal with the LA Dodgers, the only way people in SoCal can watch televised games, is it they have Time/Warner Cable.
So far over the past 1 1/2 years, no one, not the networks, other cable companies or the dishes will pay Time/Warner's asking price to carry Dodger games. It's a FIASCO!
btw part II: As you may know, the LA Dodger Triple AAA farm team is located in your "Sooner" state.
My favorite quote from a famous man who died tragically in a plane crash in 1935: "We didn't come over on the Mayflower, but we met the boat." - Will Rogers
The pilot, Wiley Post was also killed, he was another famous Sooner.

Bill,
I do truly appreciate your efforts. I noticed you'd taken some well deserved time off and was just getting the thread back up to the top in hopes somebody else might have some info. Unfortunately for you, it appears you're the only one with access to such broad ranging info.
I'll certainly agree with the time/warner stuff. Each of the major cable companies has it's respective region by the gonads. The moment it was decided we needed more than the over the air channels, we were doomed to exorbitant and outrageous fees and limited viewing. The old song of "57 channels and there's nothing on" was truly prophetic. Satellite is no better, just you give your fees to somebody besides a cable company.
Mr. Rogers was a smart man. I often wonder why he stayed in Oklahoma.
Thank you, again for your efforts. I apologize for ruffling feathers.

Several years later, the Beverly Hills home was found to be rife with termites. It had to be torn down...as it was too far gone to be saved. Rogers and family then moved to the ranch house.
Rogers also acquired acreage in Brentwood, used it for 2 huge polo fields and erected grandstands so that the general public could attend the matches.
After he died, the adjacent Riviera Country Cub purchased some of the polo field to extend their golf course. In the mid 1950's, tract houses and Paul Revere Junior High School were built on the remaining polo grounds.
When actor Noah Beery Jr. died, I attended his funeral as I was a fan. Besides the usual relatives, stunt men and film crew members, actor James Garner and Jim Rogers also attended.
Jim was Will's youngest son, he met Beery when both acted in Hal Roach films during the late 1930's, early '40's. During his eulogy...he told a very funny story about Beery and his herd of goats.

Hi, this is my 1st post, and I'm very glad to find your website. I just bought a 1969 Ford flatbed. I haven't towed the truck to my house yet so I don't have the data plate info, just the VIN F35YRF54383. Can someone tell me what it means? I'm going to restore it and use it for a hunting rig. Does Chiltons (or anyone else) still make manuals for this old of a truck?
