Big trucks are a specialized market, so only a few will be interested. I'd stick it on craigslist and see what the response will be.

VIN (Vehicle Identification Number): P50 J VN72706

W.B. 137 / COLOR: Blank / MODEL: P500 / BODY: 0 / TRANS: G / AXLE: 44 / MAX GVW LBS: 15000 / CERT NET HP: 122 / RPM: 3400 / DSO: 8970218 Verify, should only be 6 numbers.
Welcome to FTE

P50 = P500 (P Series Parcel Delivery).

J = Cannot be correct, not used after 1965. Possibly an A = 240 1V I-6.

V = Kentucky Truck Assembly Plant.

N72706 = 1972.

137" Wheelbase.

COLOR: Blank.

P500, 15,000 lbs. GVWR

0 = Body not supplied by FoMoCo.

G = C4 Cruise-O-Matic used with 240 & 300 I-6's, has 11 trans pan bolt holes.

44 = Rockwell model D100 Single Speed Rear Axle / 6.80-1 / 13,000 lbs. Rear Axle Capacity.

15,000 lbs. Gross Vehicle Weight Rating.

122 net HP @ 3,400 RPM (Possibly 240 I-6, VIN engine code A).

89XXXX: If 89 is correct = Transportation Service, last 4 numbers: Domestic Special Order.

If 870218: 87 = Selling dealer sold P500 to body company / 0218 = Domestic Special Order.

When there is no COLOR code, vehicle is painted a non standard color per original purchasers request, making the vehicle a Domestic Special Order.

2/2004: "She who must be obeyed" and I took a 14 night Panama Canal Cruise, Miami to San Diego. First port of call: Aruba

DSO: 970218

97 = Export.

0218 = Domestic Special Order.

4th digit of VIN appears to be a J, but what engine that is, I dunno. Cummins 855 cid I-6 diesel, 475 cid V8 not installed in P Series.

For a fee, you can get the info from martiauto.com, who has all the 1967/79 FoMoCo records.

Been trying to find a way to read my Vin # but have not found it yet.
Wondering if someone can help me out with it. If I go by what I find stuff does not match up.
I do know it was sold as a Cab Chassis truck then turned into a sleeper and hauler bed truck. It has the 240 HP 7.8 motor turned up RT6610 Road Ranger 10 speed, 4.56 rearend.

Thanks I see it shows 1988 but is titled as a 1987. Guess it was because of it being finished up somewhere else? Does the Vin # also show you what rear end and gears it has? Of is that on the numbers below the S/N #?

It is a 1987 .. 1988 was a typo.

VIN has 17 digits, how many didn't I decode?

TRANS & AXLE codes printed on Certification Label.

NO you did a great job and thankful for the help. Was just wondering if the string of numbers below the SN was for the paint, axles and other stuff on the truck? Just got in a Specification book for a 1989 model. And I need to look though it and find out the rest of the info.
Again thanks for the time and help. Its priceless as your willing to take time to do this for people.
