True. But since the ZF5 was put in the F350 I suspect it'll do what I need to do in my F150. And, that synchro'd 1st gear should get anything I could ever tow rolling easily.
Quite true. The reasons I listed above are the main reasons that manfacturers rate an auto trans equipped truck with higher towing capacities than an other wise identical manual trans truck.
I didn't agree with the idea myself, back in the mid 90's. I bought a 5 speed equipped F150, since I use a truck for towing, even though it was rated about 1500 Lbs lower tow capacity. Of course, I also bought it with a 300 and 3.55 axle, for the same reason. It wasn't easy to find a truck with that combo, as most 300/5 speeds had a 2.73 axle, for MPG.
The reason dad's truck has a C6, was because of that "canoe" he had at the time. Even a granny 4 speed struggled with getting it up the boat ramps at some lakes. 23 ft self contained wood hull cabin cruiser, off shore capable. First time he put in the water, he used a 3 speed stick to pull it out. New clutch the next day. Next summer, he had the 74.......
The "canoe" was dad's nickname for the boat. It was rather big, and took 3 ft of water to keep the prop and rudder off the bottom. For power, it originally had a marine 283, but that was blown when dad bought it, so he built a 327 to replace it.
On another note, not quite myself right now. My dog of 12.5 years died about 6pm. Gonna miss that little furball. RIP Kujo. 5/10/99 - 3/20/12

RW - That's tough. I do understand. Our dog (3/2/97) passed away a yeast ago. Her last ride was in the '82 Explorer.
Yes, losing pets is hard. I had a cat for 18 years, he survived cancer in the mouth but kidney failure finally got him about a year later. The Veterinary Teaching Hospital at CSU can do amazing things with animals but I'm now of the opinion that it doesn't make sense to spend a bunch of money on an old animal that is going to die soon, anyway.
Sorry to hear that RW, it has wounded me greatly each time one of my pets passes on. But I'm sure you gave your dog a good life, and it is all anyone can do. We are all just passing through this world, dogs included.

In deed, we are all just passing through this world. Reminds me of a song - This world's not my home, I'm just a passing through. I'm glad RW mentioned this because it was almost exactly a year ago today that our dog passed away.
Thanks guys. He was my best buddy thru some pretty rough times. The last thing my ex ever gave me, was this puppy. She then tried to take him (and the 80 F150) when we split.
It's truly amazing how much room such a small critter can occupy in your life. He may have only been 7 Lbs, but it's left a 100 Lbs hole in my heart to lose such a devoted freind.
Not sure which was harder, trying to comfort him for last few minutes of life, or burying him.
I know exactly what you all are talking about. We have a had two rescue ChowChows, the first a cinnamon named Bear (what else?) then a probably brown one our camping club dubbed Bear Junior, or BJ. Bear developed a tumor on his tongue and had to be put down, he couldn't eat and could barely drink or breathe. He went with his head on my knee, tail wagging till he was gone. BJ developed arthritis so badly he couldn't stand up to eat, so we had to do the same for him.
I had both cremated and have the "urns" in the living room. When my first wife died, the funeral home put a few of their ashes in with hers so she has her "watchdogs" with her.
Back on the original subject, I picked up a new liquid line for my AC system, stainless steel screws, bolts, flat washers and self locking 1/4-20 nuts for my running boards. I also found a piece of 3 1/2" hose with expansion bellows for the MAF conversion.
