I have found the mech "globes" to be a pretty darned good solution/alternative to pricey glass. I have a few myself. My "beater 220" still wears its cracked glass though. Its a good runner, makes a funny buzzing/spitting noise though.

I've had one lantern do this. Sometimes it'll stop once the pressure or temperature changes after its been running a while.
It's the cleaner rod and eccentric block that resonate. Put a SLIGHT bend near the bottom of the pricker rod, left or right of the hook. Just enough to put a little sideways pressure on it and the e-block.
