Is that your coolant temp sensor all the way down there Dylan? Looks to be one right on the thermostat housing. Most temp sensors I've seen are in the intake...that spring wrapped wire looks like it could be a copper line style sending unit. The spring/tubing is just a way to route the wire/tube and to keep it from rubbing things IIRC.
Thanks outlawbob, at the moment i don't have 100 to spend on that yet but i will keep it in mind.
Yeah Brett that wire goes from that connector thing through the firewall and into the aftermarket thermostat. The green colored thing looks almost like a vacuum port
I tried finding out what it was but i don't think i ever got the right answer. There is a small plug kind of under it with a rubber boot but it doesn't fit too well. It is on the bottom leftmost part of the picture.
Hmm. So what kind of plug or connector would go on there? I have always been sort of curious of this thing but figured it didn't do anything or was broken somehow and didn't work.
That part on the water neck is a coolant temp vaccum controller emissions part. It normally would have a piece on it with vacuum ports and a bunch of lines going to it, I usually just replace them with a brass plug if I drain the coolant for anything or just not worry about it.
Well it has certainly been a while. Not much has happened, i did get a 4 prong trailer wire and i got it wired in and working.
Next i went and visited a fellow washington FTE member named Opossum and we played with the carb for a bit then went to try out the 4wd on TGM. Turns out i have a large issue with my system, 2 different gear ratios. I have 355 gears in my front end and 273 gearing in the rear end. Causes some issues...
Major issue..it won't work in 4 wheel drive..the gear have to match..mine is 350 front and rear...back in 78 / 79 ford gears were pretty even numbers...300, 325, 350, 389, 411 etch..
someone has changed both of the front and rear gears...cheaper to do the nine inch rear than the front dana..be sure of what they are

Ouch... that can't be good. Good luck fixing that.
gruesom,
how do you know what your ratio's are..did you pull the front cover and check the ring teeth and count the pinion teeth..
what about the rear...did you pull the nine inch..rotating the tire and counting the turns on the pinion might get you close..but not exact..
or are the tags on the differential's

Hey, me and a guy who has an 87 f350 in the bull nose forums had me jack up the front and he rotated the tire while I counted the drive line. Then the same for the back.
Small updates... small updates. Did a bit of fiddling with my 2150 carb, made it run bad, then OK. Also did some research and discovered the Carter i bought is the 9504S series and is only rated at about 500 CFM... Supposedly the 2150 i have now is 500 as well. So pretty much i am tacking on 2 more bores and making it easier to adjust the mixture screws. Oh well.
The new plan is to get the 4 bbl stuff on then while i figure out what to do with the cast 2bbl intake, i want to try my hand at rebuilding the 2150 and buy an adapter then throw it back on TGM and rebuild the Carter. Of course this is only if all goes as planned, but when does that ever happen?
i did try to say the 2150 was a really, really high flowing 2bbl carb
Yeah and i did understand what everyone was saying.. I was "mislead" and somewhat told the Carter was 600 CFM... BUT it matters not since i already have everything i will keep the 2150 in good shape and as a back up incase i need it.
