Yeah made a new one after having a hard time getting the old one out. The old one was ruined but I didn't hurt the IPR valve. I pressed in a new one I made from aluminum. I had read you can stick a screwdriver down the end of it and see if whatever is in there moves up and down freely, which it did.
Maybe I should take the other valve cover off and check the harnesses. I did ohm the injectors and glow plugs through the pigtail receptacle and the injectors all ohmed good. As I recall I had one bad glowplug on that side. I just doubt if it is that though.
I have checked the pressure off the schrader valve 2 or 3 times while cranking the engine and it is always around 50 lbs. Is it possible my engine might not be getting fuel? Again, no smoke.
I must have a loose wire somewhere or a bad connection. Why would it start yesterday and at one point ran for about 30 seconds and now I can't even start it. Obviously, it is getting fuel and the injectors are working. Aaargh!
Okay, the last time the engine started I had disconnected the computer harness and loosened the other big harness next to it. So I did that again today, moved the wires around, and tried starting truck.
It started! I let it run for 10 mins and it restarted. It takes it several seconds to start, but I guess we'll see what happens.
This is a very uneasy feeling! I need to go diesel, but I don't know what the hell I did to make it run.
I did measure ICP volts through blue wire while it was running and it was 0.95 volts at idle.
oh yeah and its prob taking 7 seconds to start because there is still air in the fuel system or oil system driving it for awhile will solve that but be careful you never know when the truck might start acting up on ya again!
Well it continues to start, so I drove it a couple of miles around the neighborhood, and it definietely isn't running very smooth. I am hoping it still has air in the system, plus I only have about a quarter tank fuel and it has been in there for a few months.
Bummed! Let the truck sit for 4 hours, went to try and start it, and nothing. Crank, crank, crank! No smoke again, nothing. Since it was running bad, could the air in the system still be making it hard to start, or I wonder if my IPR is getting stuck when I shut it off.
After all the work I've done on the truck or the last month, I start it up this morning, am sitting inside trying to figure out what the problem might have been when all of a sudden my "check engine" light comes on, the truck runs like crap, and dies. I immediately start it up again, and the check engine light is gone. The same problem I had when this whole marathon started. I plugged in another scanner to get a code, and it says, "No code"! I am going to buy a new IPR and see if that fixes it.
