Remote start

Looks like they are the same with the exception of the security system. Could check the Ford site and see what that says.....
Gotta swing by my remote start guy and see what he says for install .... if I have to buy a bunch of extra stuff I'm just going to go with the Ford one for $250....seems like a good price..

Old thread, I know. Have 2012 Job 2 and got the remote start to keep the truck running with the quick flip method described above. Worked about 2 of 8 times and I will need more practice to perfect it. Great trick - Thanks to the discoverers of this. Truck ran on for the programmed 5 minutes and then cut off. Had to remove all keys and key ring from key to get clean flip to off position.

Thanks for reviving as I have always liked that feature...
When it's 100+ here and I'm stopping for only a moment, don't want the air to go off for even a second
but couldn't get it to work for my 2012 Lariat ultimate...
Will read more in the manual...
Page 86 says:
REMOTE START CLIMATE OPERATION (IF EQUIPPED)
The climate control system will condition the cabin temperature during
remote start based on the outside temperature. Engine idle may increase
to help with adjusting the cabin temperature.
Note: No climate control adjustments will be recognized during remote
start operation and none of the climate function indicators will be
illuminated while the vehicle is in remote start. Once the ignition is
cycled to the on position, the climate control system will return to the
previous settings (last ignition-on cycle) and adjustments can be made
normally. If the previous setting was off, the climate control system will
turn off.
If you previously had any of the following activated: heated seats (if
equipped), cooled seats (if equipped), heated mirrors (if equipped), or
rear defrost, they will not return to their previous settings (on) when the
ignition is turned on and will need to be re-activated if desired.
For more information on remote start climate settings and options, refer
to Message Center in the Instrument Cluster chapter.
Page 134 says:
Using MyKey with remote start systems
MyKey is not compatible with non Ford-approved aftermarket remote
start systems. If you choose to install a remote start system please see
your authorized dealer for a Ford approved remote start system.
Page 10 of the diesel supplement says:
STOPPING THE ENGINE
Turn the ignition to the off position.
To prolong engine life (especially after extended high speed, high
ambient temperature, or high GVW/GCW operation, such as heavy loads
and/or heavy trailers), it is recommended that a hot engine be idled for
3-5 minutes which will allow the turbocharged engine to cool down. For
more information on GVW/GCW, see Vehicle loading – with and
without a trailer in the Owner guide

And what is this ?!?!
Many states and provinces have restrictions for the use of remote start.
Check your local and state or provincial laws for specific requirements
regarding remote start systems.
Really ? Why ? is it the tree huggers or ?!?
I know once an Arlington, Tx cop gave me grief as I was walking out the mall saying I couldn't leave my Excursion running...
but he thought I had left the keys in it Dooh, nope - remote started it as I was walking out !
He apologized ! A good natured leo is nice - don't envy them their job at all !

You obviously won't find the trick in the manual and FWIW, I don't have any Mykeys programmed in. See post #98. Only difference I found is that you don't have to quickly remove the key, just quickly turn to off position. Truck will hesitate and then keep running. All dash lights and guages went off and Nav stayed on until I opened the door. Got out relocked and walked away. Truck shut off after 5 minutes (I have 5 min programmed in for remote start duration). Like I said, you have to be fast and it did not work for me every time.
