That is the LCD screen. Look at the top menu, there will be a "settings" option. Go there and look for "vehicle", below that is the "remote start" option. You can set the times there and also disable remote start capability. Page 46 of the manual.
thanks !!
let me know if the cooldown/shutdown process works for you.
Interesting for sure... Will be waiting on your report...
Not sure how it is working on my996duc1's truck as the "door open shut down" setting for the remote start is supposed to be enabled from the factory on all MyKey vehicles.
What will be even more interesting is how the extended remote fob I installed will work (or not) if the standard fob works.

Thinking about this a bit, I agree that the door open status may be set differently on his truck. How does this setting work when the truck is in remote start mode? The door needs to be open to get in. I know that touching the brake shuts it down in RS mode. Could he have found a loophole?

Sorta along the lines of my next question which is... Can my996duc1 reverse the procedure so to speak. Meaning can you remote start the vehicle then enter it, insert the key and drive away with out having the vehicle shut down and require to be restarted.
My understanding is from the factory the remote start should not be able to be active in any manner with the door open and if you open the door while in remote start mode it should shut the vehicle down...

Looks like I have some experiments to try tomorrow. I do know that if I start the truck with RS, I can unlock the door with the key fob, get in and the truck will be still running. None of the truck's instruments, radio or HVAC controls will be on. Once the key is in and turned to on, everything powers up.
I have not tried remote starting the truck while inside and opening the door. That will be one experiment.
Another will be to try his procedure. Based on what he said, if I get out of the truck with it in RS and key in hand, it should act like it does when it is in normal RS mode (i.e. Be able to get back into the truck like it is in a normal RS mode).

Sorry it's late. In your first paragraph, yes this is exactly how it works. I. The post above I described what the truck looks like when it is in RS mode and you get in. The truck stays running when you insert the key to on.
The part I am struggling with is how he can activate RS with the door open. There is a door open message on the display and I would have thought that with this message displayed, it would not let you do what he is saying it does. Primarily because of the alarm.
not sure of my build date or where to find it.... I bought it in June last year, but that doesn't say much.
Yes, the door open message is on.
The truck goes into the RS mode once the key is turned backwards. The cluster, radio, ect shuts off. Air conditioning kicks on but it did that with normal RS too.
Where is EPIC.... I need a video of this
gotta love his videos... I want to get a GoPro camera to shoot stuff like this.
just went outside to show the wife the bed lights, high idle, and EZ down...
the cooldown RS will work with the driver's door open OR closed.
I just tried it both ways a few times.
The doors can be locked and unlocked while running and it has no effect.
I wonder if this has something to do with build date or one of the more recent flashes; or both?
This last discussion was some time ago but the early comments here could have prompted Ford to possibly make a change.
Otherwise it's just something with my996duc1's truck programming.
I don't have RS otherwise I would test on my truck.
Bumping to follow this thread. I'll be trying the cool down today.
I know that I can remote start my truck with any or all of the doors open. It seems it's always been this way but I could be wrong. Just last night, my wife and young son got in the truck before me and they were sitting with the doors open waiting for me. I walked into the garage and used the remote start before I got to the truck, with both the passenger side doors open. No problem.
Also, my RS won't shut off if I touch the brake. But it will if I attempt to move the shifter.
Experiments completed using a double blind taste test... Err, sorry wrong experiment.
Test vehicle: F350, CC, Lariat, Job 2, Built 12/10/10. No flashes since build date.
Experiment 1: Using my996duc1's test parameters:
1) Drive up and put it in park
2) Open driver's door
3) Using the key buttons (truck still running) I push the door lock button once and the remote start button twice (just as if I was using the remote start, but it is already running)
4) Turn the key to off position and pull the key out
5) Shut the door (already locked) and walk away.
Test result: Truck shut down and beeped one (probably due to the door being opened with the alarm engaged).
Experiment 2: Modifying my996duc1's test parameters as follows:
1) Drive up and put it in park
2) Leave door closed
3) Using the key buttons (truck still running) I push the door lock button once and the remote start button twice (just as if I was using the remote start, but it is already running)
4) Turn the key to off position and pull the key out
5) Open the door and walk away.
Test result: Truck shut down once the key was moved to off. Alarm did not go off when I opened the door.
Experiment 3: Testing Remote Start Features
1) Doors all open
2) Use the key fob to remote start (lock button once and the remote start button twice )
3) Touch brake
4) Touch gear shifter
Test result: Truck locked all open doors and remote started. Alarm did not go off. Touching brake had no affect. Touching gear shift lever shut the truck off.
Conclusion: my996duc1 has an unusual truck. My truck performed like PowerStrokeHD thought it would. Too bad though... I like the idea of being able to do this.
Also, my RS won't shut off if I touch the brake. But it will if I attempt to move the shifter.
My earlier post was incorrect. I am sure that I am a good trained "brake-gear lever interlock" driver and did not realize I touched the gear lever while touching the brake. It works as you describe...
I tried a bunch of different ways this morning after seeing my996duc1's post but was only able to get the truck to honk when shutting it off. Tried multiple button selections, brake pedal pressed, not pressed, door open, etc.
Maybe next steps are to find out what my996duc1's values are in the Settings window, so we can replicate our test environment(s).
I really want this feature so I can leave the truck running with the keys in my hands. I don't like having to use the keypad...
