Remote Start + heaters

Do the seat and steering wheel heaters normally come on with remote start? Or is it temperature controlled? It was only 53 this morning and they were both on. Can they be set to not come on with remote start.? I'm not finding anything.

Not sure about the 2015’s but I believe on my 2013 they are on auto with the set point, set at 72 degrees. I can’t shut mine off; it is in the programming when starting with a remote.<O</O

My 2014 F250 has the remote start option. I thought that would be great if I needed to stop for fuel or a quick pit stop when I had the dogs with me and my wife was not along. I thought I could start the truck using the remote start feature, go take care of business while the truck ran and the doggies would be in a cool vehicle. Alas, while testing the remote start in my driveway the climate control system wasn't operational until I inserted the key into the ignition and turning it to the on position. I've tried letting the truck run, locking the doors, closing the door and the locks will not stay locked. (I have the outside keypad which I would use to re-enter the vehicle).
We live in Southern California and thought it would be neat to start the truck cooling down before we got in on a hot day. I've heard that some aftermarket alarm systems have the remote start feature and wonder it the climate control system would be operational?
Anybody have any experience or thoughts regarding this issue?
Thanks,
Randy

Do you have manual or Auto HVAC controls?

Easy cure.......

Start the truck.......or leave it running. Have the A/C or heat set the way you want. Shut all doors. Using the outside push-button pad.....press the rear most 2 buttons at the same time........BINGO!! All doors are locked. BTW: Make sure you know the Unlock Code...

I use this feature all the time......Summer to keep dogs cool......winter to have a warm truck to come back to when it is -20*F.

This info is in the owner's manual.............

J/K......Don't take offense..........I just HAD TO use that icon......

Thanks everyone. I'll just have to try it when it gets colder. At 53 degrees the reason for the remote start was only to warm the engine in the new truck and experiment with what it actually did. I was surprised to find the seat and steering wheel noticeably warm. I didn't even notice if the Climate Control was on or not because at 5am I don't notice much of anything except that I woke up again (better than not) to a work day and need coffee.

I bought this truck off the lot so the remote start and moon roof are there, well just because they are, not because I really wanted them. I do like the tailgate step as I can't do Carl Edwards back flips anymore. I did order a bull bar so I could run over bulls without damaging my truck. And one last thing for Platinum owners. If you wax the platinum grill it looks much more like metal than plastic. I should have waxed only half and posted a pic.

Thanks, all. I'll give it a try tomorrow. I've had my truck for about 6 weeks and am still working my way through the owners manuals. I feel like I need a college level class to get through them. I'm getting lots of information from responses on this site. Maybe this is the college class I'm wanting.

I love being able to lock the doors when running by the pad (and the auto climate control/seats etc). A HUGE reason why I got back into a SD.

I remember working in 100+ heat, hitting the auto start, changing out of uniform, and when I got into the truck it was either ice cold in the summer, or toasty in the winter. Such a great feature.

Thanks OP. Because of your post I remote started mine this morning, 40 degrees, and checked the seats and steering wheel and they were warm. I wondered how long Ford would take to do this. Since the Nav screen is blank until you put in the key, you can't tell they are on except by touch. I wonder if only the driver's seat heats up or all the heated seats. I'll have to check tomorrow morning. My wife is going to be so jealous.

I'm sure there is a way to keep the climate control from coming on with a remote start but I guarantee Ford won't tell you how. The '12 Expedition Limited I had, had the remote start and the engine would shut off as soon as I put the key in the ignition. Dealer told me that is normal but after some digging I found the way to program different features of the remote start, like how long it would run and for the engine to keep running after the key was inserted.

Yep, at least the passenger seat was on this morning. Don't know about the back seat.

I don't see any of it as an issue since inserting the key returns it all back to the desired settings anyway.

On my '14, both front seats will activate heat when temps are low, but the rears will not.

That's correct, the ear heated seats do not come on automatically which is ridiculous imho. Ford also needs to add cooled rear seats as my children, believe it or not, are important to me; hence the reason why I ordered the heated rears in the first place.

Considering what is involved under the seats for the cooling, you may have to give up under seat storage to get rear seat cooling. I agree though. It would be a nice feature. At least we have rear vents! Not that long ago, you would just have to suffer through whatever cool air made it to the back from the front vents.
