High Idle Mod Remote Start

I recently did the high idle mod but as many of you know it does not work with remote start. I found the below link on how to make it work with rewiring how the aux switches receive power. Has anyone done this and are the aux switches hot all the time even with the key off?

I just added another switch were I picked up the constant hot 12v from the power outlet. Freed up the outfitter switch too.

That writeup was mine. I have no idea how many people have done the mod but answering your question, no the upfitters are not hot all the time. They are hot from remote start until the after shutdown time out is complete (door is opened or it times out).

Keep in mine that the parking brake must be on for the high idle to work. If you are concerned about the brake pads freezing to the rotors, consider the parking brake mod in my writeup.

Do you see any issues with going straight to high idle on a cold start? Any risk of engine damage?

There is a cold start high idle strategy, it will bring the idle up. No need for the high idle mod for that. It needs to idle a bit before it wants to idle up, but I am thinking that is because before that higher idle is not recommended. I think it's looking for oil and coolant temp to come up a bit first.

Even without the switch turned on, my truck goes into high idle almost immediately when it is cold outside. The older trucks would wait until temps were up before going to high idle but the newer ones don't wait long.

What the high idle switch does is to prevent the truck from stepping down from high idle when it starts to warm up and also to get high idle if the outside temp isnt cold enough to trigger it automatically. This helps to prevent wet stacking and allows the truck to warm up faster.

I was concerned about eng damage too when i first started looking into the mod but after seeing how quickly my truck steps up normally, i stopped worring and did the mod. No problems so far.
