Remote start

Is there a way to set the time for the run time on the remote start? If there is how do I set it? I would like to set it to 5 minutes and use it to cool down......

Read on/around page 28 in your owners manual (not the PSD manual), I think that's what you're looking for.

If you were able to get this to work with remote start, I remember someone saying you would need to shut down the truck then use the remote start to start the truck again then allow it to time out.

If that is the case and at that point, you've already shut the engine down hot so why start it again and add more wear and tear?
I do allow mine to idle anywhere from 30 seconds to a minute normal driving while I grab wallet, blackberry (and read new emails), knife and whatever else I need to throw in my pockets.
The turbo spools down (if your door is open you'll hear it) after about 30 seconds of idling anyways.

Towing, personally I just wait it out for a few minutes.
By the time you loosen binders on equipment or whatever you'll be several minutes into an idle.

I'm pretty sure you can set it through the info panel in your dash. Just poke around, I know it's there.

Correct....every other remote start I've had/seen has the ability to set the remote start to "on" when the vehicle is running to allow for things like running into a store while leaving the truck running. I was surprised when I found out my new SD lacked this basic functionality.

For some aftermarket starters like mine, with the vehicle running, hit the remote start button twice. You can then remove the key and it will run for the set run time.

Not sure if that works for OEM remote starters but doesn't hurt to try it.

Ford requires that remote start feature be disabled on MyKey vehicles. It closes a loophole that would allow MyKey to be accidentally or purposefully overridden.

Thanks I would have never found it ..... I do let it cool somewhat but always in a hurry, this retirement is as hectic as work sometimes ....

YOU CAN DO THIS !!!

I just figured it out today (new to me atleast) and started a new post asking about the suggested run time for cooling down when towing.
I guess I should have done more searching before I posted up.... https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...-how-long.html

How exactly? One person suggested hitting the remote start button twice, but according to PowerStrokeHD this is not available on My Key trucks.

The menu item only allows you to select the run time for running the truck in remote start mode. As far as I know, the only way you can do that is either start the truck in remote start or if it is running, shut it down, remove the key and then do a remote start -- which defeats the purpose of the cool down.

Let me see if I can explain it correctly and with enough detail...

This is how I do it and not sure what variables can be done differently and it work or not work, but this is exactly how I do it.

- drive up and put it in park
- Open driver's door
- Using the key buttons (truck still running) I push the door lock button once and the remote start button twice (just as if I was using the remote start, but it is already running)
- Turn the key to off position (engine goes into remote start mode) and pull the key out
- Shut the door (already locked) and walk away.

The truck is left locked and running with parking lights on. Mine shuts itself off after 10 minutes, gotta see if I can adjust this.
I can then use the remote to go unlock and re-lock the doors without interupting the cycle.

If my fat figures only get the remote start button hit once, it will shut off the engine when I turn the key to off and it honks at me and flashes the hazard lights once..... SO a person needs to be sure and make positive button pushes.

Be interesting to see if this works on other's trucks too.... it should.

Wow! This will be great! I will try mine tomorrow. Do you have the LCD screen? If so, you can adjust the timer for 5, 10 or 15 minutes. Not sure how to do it on the LED version.

I have a Lariat but not sure which screen it is called... LCD or LED.
I haven't been back out to the truck yet tonight to scroll through and see if I can find the adjustment for the remote start time. I may go out later to show the wife all the new stuff done today (EZ down, high idle, and bed lights)
The one I have is the one that will show temps, tire directions, instant gas mileage, ect... and it is a large square in the middle of the cluster.

That is the LCD screen. Look at the top menu, there will be a "settings" option. Go there and look for "vehicle", below that is the "remote start" option. You can set the times there and also disable remote start capability. Page 46 of the manual.

Interesting for sure... Will be waiting on your report...

Not sure how it is working on my996duc1's truck as the "door open shut down" setting for the remote start is supposed to be enabled from the factory on all MyKey vehicles.
