My experience was it didnt hold to the surface strong enough and the movement/vibration caused one side of the bead to become seperated. The stuff I have now is actually less flexible but sticks much much better.

Yeah, there are actually very few silicones that stick very very well. There was one we used for our walk in cooler that worked very well but I forget the name now and don't have any of the old tubes to reference by. I wish I would have written it down.

Thanks for the link, I will check into those!

Idk what type is on this camper, but it seems to stick pritty well. It's flexable to the touch too. Can't go for the cheap stuff on jobs like that. The stuff I used on my old camper windows stuck very well, and didn't come off either the siding or the window frame. I can't remember what I used for that either..

Just remember if you use any silicones then It all has to be cleaned if you ever go back to Dicor self leveling. As it will not stick to silicone or where it has been. And Dicor does a better job on campers then the silicone does.

Self leveling sealant will make a puddle on the ground if used to seal a verticle corner moulding on a camper. Dicor self leveling does do a good job on sealing up seams and joints on the roof though.
That butyl putty tape (Yeah, It does feel like Plumbers Putty) works well as a gasketing type sealer when adding trim pieces to the exterior wall of a camper, like a rain gutter over a door or range hood exhaust vent. I used it on our old ToyHauler for those kinds of jobs, my walls were smooth fiberglass though not aluminum siding like you guys have, I don't know how much that difference would matter.

We added three slide toppers to our TT yesterday, now I don't have to shop for an anniversary present!

Yes your right about that. But so many people will get the bad stuff on up on top. Then can't figure out how to get the leak to stop.
NEver had the Butyl tape fail, it may look bad where its in the elements. But still solid under the edge. Shoot when I replaced the skylight on our truck camper. It was as good 6 years later as it was when new.

Not sure what Heartland uses on our Key Largo, but the sides are sealed with a clear caulk type product from a caulk gun. But its a painted 5th wheel so they could not use the white stuff on it.
But man does it mold bad.

For the slide toppers? Yeah, take it to Camping World and take advantage of their $39 per item installation special with warranty!
My Bride really wanted the toppers (so did I) but she didn't want me to screw them or the new TT up doing the install. With me working almost non-stop 12 hour late shifts this worked out pretty well, they got installed and I got to sleep.

I was afraid you were gonna say that, I just renewed my sams club so I guess it's off to camping world I go, Do you remember what the toppers ran price wise?

Tom, how much where the slid toppers? When I was sweeping off my 3 slides Sunday, I became jealous of you. Lol.

I installed the slide topper on mine. It's not too difficult. Follow the directions and measure twice, drill once. However for $39 I would probably let someone do it too as long as their price on the toppers was in line with the going rate.

Our TT has two 155" slides and one 85" slide, the cost of the three Dometic toppers with all harware all in black to match the factory awning was $1400 plus or minus a couple of bucks. They look to be pretty simple to install with a helper to manage the lengths and having some scaffold to work off of would be good. And like Eric said, measure twice drill once. We aren't getting any younger and my son will be shipping off to college next year so we will be losing our slide top sweeper.

When we left Bryce Canyon National Park last week, I had to sweep off some very wet snow before we left. Not fun.

Thumbs up Memorial Day

Hooked up this morning, heading out for a few days with the kids (both two legged and four legged) for canoeing/kayaking and hiking.

Please remember the sacrifices, over many years, that many men and women and have made for our freedoms and remind your offspring what others have done as well.

I hope everyone has a safe, enjoyable and memorable "Memorial Day" or as my confederate mother would say "Decoration Day."

Peace,
Mark
