I'm towing a weenie trailer to mexico in a couple weeks. Hope it makes it.
I checked the bearings but it seems the caps are welded on ? not service-able ?

i figured this would be a good place to ask since i have been looking into WD hitches since getting my trailer.
the Ex is lifted 2.5" shackles in the front / 2" f-350 blocks in the rear with 20x9 wheels/tires. otherwise stock.
the trailer is a 20ft Jayco with a GVWR of 4,400 somewhere around 2,800-3,000 dry.
i get very little drop in the rear once hooked up..maybe 1" so no huge amount of sag or anything.
so on the 130 miles home with it i had no issues with sway or semi's passing..ect it towed as close to perfect as i think i can get. do i really need a WD hitch?
i did pick up a brake controller today. i scored the one out of my old totaled '00 excursion. so i also got the plug for under the dash that i was missing. so i just need to plug it in and mount it. i'll get the brand name later.

Probably not at that weight, but I'd definitely add some sort of sway control on the trailer, regardless of whether or not you have a RAS (I think you do).
You can read countless posts on forums about how people lost control of their trailer out of nowhere and it ended up flipping the trailer and tow vehicle (inertia) as well regardless of tow vehicle or trailer size.
People like to point to boats and say "I don't use sway control or WDH on that 6,000# boat, why would I on the 4,000 trailer??" They aren't comparing apples. The trailer is flat and tall and lighter as it gets higher. The boat is anything but. I've towed huge boats with no problems and I've pulled mid size u-haul trailers and have been pushed all over the road (not with the excursion mind you, but the expedition el).
At the end of the day, the WDH and sway control battle is solved easily in my head by the fact that I can't think of a situation in which having a weight distribution hitch or sway bar control system would HURT a towing set up.

Oh ok, my mistake, I thought you did. I don't know what the local Craigslist is like up in AK, but I found my WDH locally for less than half of what a new one would cost. Reese Dual Cam is a popular, cost effective option.

Any suggestions on tires
Just purchased a 2000 F250 Crew cab with 7.3 diesel 4x4 long bed. Plan to buy a fifth wheel camper. One were looking at is 1/2 ton towable. Tires on this truck need to be replaced. Any suggestions on brand or type? Don't know if any are better suited for towing, Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated.

so i pulled all my wheels, bearings and re-packed them. cleaned the brakes up they were just rusted up. tires have no dry rot (HOW i have no idea!!!) but another thing to kick off my list!
next up trying to get the heater going. add a new battery then registering it and get out and enjoy it alittle this summer!!
i left it hooked to my f-250 well i was working on it...figured it would be alittle safer.
