The poor old truck had some dark days didn't it. I mean it started out fresh, clean and polished performing its noble service with the Fire Patrol, the put out to pasture to a small town fire department. Not so bad, still a noble profession for the truck, but then came the dark years, being battered around from tailgate parties to a clown car before being stuck off in a corner and relegated to the "running when parked" category.
I, and I'm sure the truck feels the same way, am sure glad you stumbled onto it and rescued it, restoring it to is noble state.
Thanks for sharing the pic
Bobby
Reading this had the book "Black Beauty" pop in my head. In the book Joe was there at the start and saved Black Beauty in the later stages of his life. Here Grandfather cares for him at the start and grandson rescues him from death. Both stories for the ages.

Bobby, Its great to have her back in her original state. I can't wait till April when Ron gets to see and drive her in her restored state!
Everything is in the book!! By the way, I just got a real good price for printing. The only problem is I have to order 1000 copies which is way too many. But I could sell the book at only $15 a copy otherwise it will be $25-30 each. Trying to decide what to do

From my point of view, as a buyer, I WANT your book. Yes, $15 sounds better than $30. But unless you think you can sell 1,000 books, my advice is to order the lower number of books and charge us the higher price. I'm going to buy it whatever the price (well, within reason ). I'd hate for you to get "stuck" with 500 books when you're done. That just doesn't make sense.
Besides, it'll be worth more with your autograph inside the front cover...
Well, it depends on how much you are charging for your autograph.
$30 plus shipping per book. Not a problem! Would I prefer $15? Yes, but unless you can definitely sell 1000 copies, I don't want you stuck holding books.
Have you talked with the museum that this truck will spend some time? Is there a museum in Chicago that would want a couple hundred? Maybe they could purchase some for sale to bump your total sales high enough. I would guess they are begging for money, so it may not be an option....
Thanks for your input guys. About the museum's, I am friends with most of the guys who run the Chicago museum and they would help me sell some. I am planning to put an ad in their quarterly newsletter just like I did with my first book. That will give me a better idea on how to procede. Gerald, the man who is helping me restore the truck, is the VP of the Ft Lauderdale Museum so I could have some copies sold there especially if my truck is on display there.
I can see now!!! Well sort of! We got the side view mirrors on today although temporarily because obviously I need to paint one silver like it originally was. I also need to get the correct Do Ray Mirror head with the rubber ring around it. We have the horn button wired up so I can at least use one horn until I fix my broken original one or find a replacement. Gerald stayed after I left today to finish up some wiring issues. I still have some 6 volt motors on the Mars lights and wipers so I bought some voltage reducers to use. I have been looking for a nice set of spot lights to add on the doors but most of the ones I've seen are pretty pitted.
You can see they are the same mirrors!
Another vintage pic of the truck with a former owner. As you can see he put his business name on the side and parked it out front of it.
Check this out. This morning my friend in Chicago goes into an antique store and finds this vintage poster. Notice whats written on the Patrolman helmet -Patrol 5 He is going to make me a copy.
