I'm beginning to think since it starts already, grounding pin 30 may not produce any differance since there isn't a computer to operate the sensors and if the distributor has a electrical module attached to the side it will need the computer to operate the distributor. Maybe that is why it is backfiring, etc. Also a TV cable disconnected or not adjusted could ruin the tranmission quickly. It might be cheaper to find another 1988 Tbird on cragslist to get the missing parts. I bought a 1995 tbird last year, took off what I wanted and resold the engine./tranny and then the car. Ended up cheap parts. chuck
Latest goggle find. (1) Fuel min of 35 PSI.
(2) AOD non-elect until 1993
(3) EEC-IV distributor has a electric sensor in/on Dist.
(4) Has a TV cable to adjust.
(5) Having some sensors to fail has a limp home mode.
(6) Needs the computer. Also attaches to the back of the speedometer.
(7) For a transplant it recommended a prior 1988 engine. (8) Neu safety provides a ground for MAP and also TPS along with a N or P start function.

Hey Chuck thats an interesting find! #8
Joe and email crasher that might be something! if that MAP sensor doesn't
have a completed circuit then it would work right or at all, could cause that backfiring maybe? but then you never had a malfunction code on that so maybe not...
carnutt take as much credit as anyone else! there is no "I" in "TEAM"
that's how I like it ! you were looking listening and its all about helping or getting help! And that little red '53 is looking real sweet! looking forward to more pics! I wish I had a building like that!
Jeff, Great response! I just like it when I "get a hit." Keep after this as I'm hoping to fire mine up this summer. I'll bookmark this thread so that I can refer back to it if I need to. The building was my 25th anniversary present. I just can't wait to get the truck finished so that I can get rid of the extra parts and park my Fiero on the other side.
Chuck I think you misread something there...The tranny has no sensors that connect to the computer, but the sensors on the engine are connected to the computer...
That is a great article on the AOD transmission though, I bookmarked that one!
carnutt a FIERO ??? must enjoy go karts huh?
I never owned one, but I did do alot of maintenance on one for a friend...man I hated workin on that thing...mid engine lower back KILLER !!
It was a fun car to drive in the hairpin turns though!
Man I don't know what to say...except that something isn't connected right with that setup. when that harness got cut up it's impossible for me to know what the heck is goin on. obviously grounding that pin 30 isn't correct. I have seen many pinout diagrams and they all show pin 30 grounded...i think. I don't want to keep throwin you guys into wild goose chases anymore...I feel bad about this, but I am just as frustrated as you guys now!
i wish you had an uncut harness just to rule out that problem or at least had a good one to compare connections. i will check back tomorrow.
I told joe and will mention again, FordFueInjection.com is a good source of info on this stuff. most of what I have thrown out here (the links) are from there.you may want to search there.
I have seen that ALL DATA looks helpful, do you like it?
ok guys im out for tonight...
yeah I understand...burnout mode...work at work and work at home...
this diagram tells me that pin 30 is NOT supposed to be grounded...but it would be 12 volt from the neutral safety switch. will someone else verify this? I am not an electrical guy per say...
May have to save the image to your computer because I tried to zoom in on it here and it gets real blurry, but i can email my original to whoever if needed.
Jeff, check this . It came from your previous post. Wires from the TPS and MAP go to 30 and to ground. So it does more than just the Neu safety swirch but how it is affecting the MAP and TPS without a computer I don't know. The article I found said the distributor has a electronic module attached to the side of the dist. I said in previous post no computer for the AOD. Maybe I wasn't very clear the way I wrote it. chuck

Reason: corection Map
hi Chuck, yes you are correct. I did misunderstand you. yeah the AOD is not controlled by a computer. now as for the pin 30 ordeal....i am still researching all of that. I am assuming that it has to do with engine load when in gear vs park/neutral. just haven't found the answers yet.
