Has the tranny fluid been checked/changed or the filter. Did it leak out during engine installation. Could the fluid have congealed in the filter and lines restricting pressure changes for shifting. Just thoughts. chuck

We changed the fluid, filter and seal. Could it be a low level problem? We just put one of the big bottles in if I remember correctly, it's been a few months.

Okay, so after doing some internet research, it seems like this is fairly common with AOD's, and it is usually to do with a stuck valve body and/or a stuck governor. Apparently if the transmission has been sitting for a while the aluminum in the valve body gets a bit tarnished and the valves don't work like they're supposed to. Anyone ever personally done this?

My daughter's Sebring went into 2nd (limp home mode) when her tranny bit the dust. Is first gear the "limp home mode" for the AOD?

There shouldn't be a limp home mode. The tranny is entirely mechanically controlled. The only electronic plug is for the reverse lights and the neutral safety switch.

From What I read limp home mode is a function of a failure, controlled by the computer.
I have read about the TV cable being very senstive to adjustment. Since you did drive it without a TV cable, I am wondering if doing this screwed up the tranny. There isn't many options. Have you stopped by a tranny overhaul place and talked to the owner or supervisor? Many shops are being more helpful trying to get your business now or later. chuck
