I went with a new pan a few years ago. Scuffed it real good, cleaned with the POR cleaner and put two coats of POR15 on it. It is now rusted. I wish I would have stripped it prior to coating it.
wow! the salt must be a foot thick there! or our pans are complete crap! maybe get them powdercoated

One option you don't see is having the pan nickel plated. The guy who nickel plated my caliper brackets on my Falcon said it was the best thing you can do to steel to protect it. Around here that would be an $80 to $100 process at the platers.
Please give us a detailed description of parts replaced...curious just what all gets changed out....curious as to compression...will read from beginning tomorrow...maybe those ford dealers weren't right after all!!! Finger's X'ed
Manifolds were leaking badly, so installed new hardware and gaskets. Still have to drill out one of the bolts. Heat and a punch and 2 people hitting it won't budge it.
A lot of cleaning!
A lot of anti-seize on everything. New uppipe donuts, new uppipe to manifold hardware and uppipe to collector hardware.
Gutted/Plugged Pedistal and EBPV.
Thats about all I can think of off the top of my head.
We hope the bearings and injectors will be fine. It ran like a top before teardown so there's a good chance he will be fine. We would rather not throw 5k bucks away on an "maybe."
Besides all the stuff that's been done can now easily be swapped over to a forged rod engine should the need arise.
where do you get the forged rod engine and is it better?
Your truck should have forged rods. The PMR's came around in 2001 (I think....)
It is said the forged rods can handle more power but PMRs should be able to handle quite a bit as well. Both are equally well suited for slightly modified power levels but most people go for forged rods when power exceeds 500hp or so. If you do a search for "PMR rods" you will find a lot to read about.
Hope this helps.

Reason: Typo. Meant to specify 2001 model year

It shouldn't be an issue with this truck. We did talk about the rods when we were looking into a replacement block. I don't need any additional HP'r.
My truck is primarily used on the road. 1000+ miles a week. I have a small 6x12 trailer I use for snow mobiles and ATV's but that's it . I bought the truck for room and longevity.
Marty can chime in on the PMR vs.FR issue . He's the guy for that .
