I've never had a truck with carpet, then again, i've never had a truck any trim higher than Custom . All my parts truck had carpet though, all red interiors to! lol
Only the camper has nice brown carpeting in the cab, but that doesn't see winter, so it's fine.
I hear you about the custom/xl trim levels. But for some reason less than 5% of the old fords up here are lower than xlt. I have no idea why. My uncle owned 2, and he had 5 fords to his name, and he hated the electronics "More to go wrong" in his words. Mine is badged as "XLT Lariat" on my insurance, though not on the actual truck. Oddly though it has more advanced features on it over my mothers 98 F150 xlt. Digital odo, fuel door sensors, etc.
The reason why there isn't many Customs or XL's left running around, is most of them were used as real work trucks/company trucks, so most are rotted out, crushed or sitting in a scrap yard now.
Same here, most older Fords here are the higher end ones. Though, like my '89 F150 Custom, witch is in top shape, once in a while you see some, usually driven by older folks who just like plain n' simple and use 'em every now and then as second vehicles, or have a truck "just in case" they ever needed one.
Sure ain't often you see a Custom this clean
Even my IDI F250, considering the mileage, and being 4x4, and rotted to hell, had a nice clean interior, minus rusty pedals and 4x4 shifter
Thats impressive as hell being an ontario truck. They try and unload them out here all the time, DIRT cheap, and they are always rusted to hell from all the salt.
FM75, I hear that, I love my truck, but it's been neglected so much by the PO's that to get it to stock it's like $6000 of work. I'm thinking of getting a bronco shell, and dumping the drivetrain and axles into it, and like line-x'n EVERYTHING.

When you look at the outside of the grey interior, it looks like a ontario truck.
My '89 F150 was a farm truck before I bought it. So that explains the low mileage and probably hasn't seen much salt. And it comes from way in the middle of nowhere in the country.
I try not to use it when the roads are wet in winter. When the roads are dry, it's not bad, salt doesn't fly and stick everywhere. And when ever we get a day over freezing, I wash both truck and car, and pressure wash underneath of both!
I learned my lesson very well with the F250. Not gonna let this one get ate up by salt!
Haha, yeah as soon as I saw your F-250 the first time back when I joined I figured you were from ontario. Yeah if you clean em properly, it's not bad on vehicles, but if you don't they go to ****. My wheel wells rusted out more last winter than they had the entire time I drove my truck. Up north salt/sand mix. Problem was it was never above freezing for like a month and a half, so I couldn't really wash her off...

Boy can you ever say that again
That's why I got me a Florida cab
And my box comes from Montreal, Quebec, 2 hours from me. It's mint, been repainted, but no signs of any body work done on it.
Btw, that's when I got it running after being dry for 6 or 7 months. When I torched out what was left of the old bed bolts, I cut through the original Nylon fuel lines, so that's why it's running off a Jerry can attached to the front frame horn.
