Lisa, I have met a lot of ladies at the park...I can even remember a few of their names!
I seem to remember the dogs names easier!
I love bicolor corn...I think it is sweeter and it is easy to grow,
I think the farmers just plant so much corn that a few missing from raccoons arent worth the hassle...unless they trap them and release them near your home!
We probably have more raccoons than the farmers, there seems to be a higher concentration of them in the suburban parts of town.
Funny we made history in the neighborhood by even growing the corn, no one else has ever figured out a way to keep them out. Randy and I engineered a really simple lattice fence around the vegetables and we haven't had a single problem. All the neighbors have been asking me about it hahah.

groundhogs are a bigger problem than the deer, coons, and birds.
the bigger problem for farmers is bugs.
Yeah the bugs here are insane. I had my first Japanese beetle experience (they haven't eaten their way out west yet) and man those things are just completely and utterly disgusting. I dealt with it by sprinkling some Seven over the plants occasionally. When I went on vacation to Colorado, I almost lost my broccoli....when I came back it had almost been completely eaten down to the roots by some type of worm.
Well my oliver got a good workout today. I entered in the antique power show's tractor pull I went 189.15 feet, not bad for a fully stock tractor when everybody else is weighted and modded a bit.
Well my day today at work was interesting. Started out nice I picked up 4 bags of corn and brought them in since they get em from a place right near me so it's easier for me to pick it up versus them crossing town twice.
So that went well, but then I was shown a set of lockers they wanted me to assemble. 3 lockers wide by 3 lockers tall. I have a new respect for janitors those things are a major PITA to put together. It took me all day and I still need to do one more final tightening on it.
The bossman bought it because the packers aren't supposed to have any jackets or anything laying around in the packing area. I really hate that thing. The good news is tomorrow I'm putting together a nice easy to do shelf unit. Of course now that I say that nothing will go right on it.
Anyways I'll bring my camera along tomorrow and try to get some pictures of the packing line. It's pretty impressive to look at. Especially when it's in full-swing. It's the largest pack house east of the hudson valley. To be honest I don't entirely know what everything there does, but it's still pretty cool.
Yes I grew those myself. My first corn. Pretty easy to grow, its just hard to keep the animals away from them. The raccoons loooove corn, and I find myself wondering how the farmers deal with it. I guess they don't.
We found this week that bears also like corn and must not mind the electric fence
