Lightning vs. Corvette
Lets just say this, the Sledgehammer is the fastest vehicle ever made buy a car company. Some call it production, some say tuner, some say other. This is the fastest vehicle ever made. The Mclaren isn't. It never made it to 240 mph so where did you get that figure from? I think it was 217 mph when they did the test. It was the fastest til the vette came out and ran 226 mph. Id like to know what the Viper did. From what I have seen over the years, Chevrolet knows how to build fast cars, their tuners know what they are doing, likes Reeves Callaway, Lingenfelter, etc. Their hp and engine displacement match what they should run. As for Ford, they just dont know how to do anything right the first time. Just like the Cobras. They were supposed to have 320 hp????? no way in hell. So they skipped a year of making the Cobra. This year they came back, and still not 320 or close, it was tested at 311 hp and the Trans am was tested at 317 hp on the dyno. Their supercharged Saleen 281's and 351's are slow to for the hp they have. The GT's are #####. Same thing with the Bullit. Ive only been impressed by one Mustang of Fords called the Boss. It ran 10's in the 1/4 mile. It actually beat the Camaro Chevy had at the meet, but not by much. That was by far the best comparison test I have ever seen. Now Dodge on the other hand, they have a lot of enigne problems, the viper has oiling problems. I hear about it all the time. One top speed test Motor Trend did, the Viper was on fire from an oil leak. No a/c, etc, nothing like the Vette which has every option you could want. So I think Chevy is the way to go. Oh yeah, when I went to the fastest cars in the world web site, the first vehicle that came up, was of course the Hammer and so on down the line, and what do ya know, Ford was on there with their GT-40. Thats a first. Thats all I have for now. Jason
from what i remember, reevs had to make new panels for the vett for better wind resistenc, and mod the hell out of the engine.
how much does that car cost?
By the way sparky, a production car, comes out of the automakers Factory. An aftermarket manufacturer is the one who does the extra work on the car to make it a lingenfelter, saleen, roush, or sledgewhatever (personally I've never heard of it, and don't really want to see anything called a sledgehammer. Personally it sounds stupid!!) Could you see someone asking, "Gee, is that a sledgehammer you're driving?" Please, I wouldn't be caught dead admitting that, it sounds ridiculous!
It's obvious he can't understand what he's talking about, especially when he says that a specialty car is a production car? How many people do you see driving a Production Saleen home from the neighborhood ford dealer? Not many, or how about a Roush? Try a lingenfelter Vette? See one of those at your neighborhood dealership?
Nope and you probably won't either! Unless you daydream all of this up and then try tpo force feed it to everyone, kind of like what you're tyring to do here.......
Hmmm, let's see what he has to say about Production cars now?
since you like to compair a "inferrior" viper to a vett. here are some comments from a guy that owns both a viper GTS, and a 2002 z06.
I am almost totally unbiased. So here is my response.
My Z is an 02. It is a great car but it is no Viper. PERIOD. Most Chevy folks love to push the comfort issue. Yup, the Vette is more comfortable for short and long trips. PERIOD. But, Chrysler made the Viper to be a factory racer that brings back, back to basics concepts. They hit the nail on the head. It is kind of funny how chevy lovers always compare features like cup holders on their vettes to the Viper's lack thereof.
I absolutely love my Viper but wish they had put a couple of features on it that the Vette has.
If I could only have one and it was a daily driver, I would pick the Vette.
If I didn't have to sell anything and could keep the Viper as a pleasure car, I would have it.
Sometimes it is not about the money, sometimes it is about the car. I know a lot of Ferrari owners that have cars that are not near the performance vehicle as my Viper but I respect the reasons they chose their car over the Viper. I try not to talk money and cars, I paid a ton for my 71 Cuda 440 6 pack vert and know it can't hang with my Vette, Viper or some of my other cars. I didn't buy it solely for performance. I bought it for my pleasure.
I drive the Z as my daily driver. I absolutely love the car. Every time I get out of it, I have a huge smile on my face. Every time I drive the Viper, I have a huge smile on my face. That is the important part, gotta buy the car that you will like the most.
If you are a show boat, the Viper has the gawk factor by 10 fold or more.

As long as you're talking about tuner cars don't forget the Camaro SS. They's alot of SS owners out there who think they have a stock factory car and when told get pretty bent out of shape. In 96 SLP Eng. used to take Z28's and redo them to SS design. In 98 GM helped out SLP and shipped them Z28's without hoods, exhuast or badges. SLP carrys their own warrenty and has their serial no.s for the SS's. They have the same arrangement as Roush and Ford. I have a Roush truck and it has its own Roush serial in addition to Ford's.
Just because after 98 GM and SLP streamlined their operation some think and say the SS came inhouse- not true. www.slpeng.com will tell its a second sticker car and their product. And I don't know what the fastest production ever made was.
If I wanted a sports car, I'll admit I'll look at a vette or something else. But I'm 6'2" and about 280 pounds so if I ever test drove a vette, I'd have to buy the thing because I wouldn't be able to get my *** out of it. They'd have to rub vavoline on my butt and get a crow bar or a small crane.
The bottom line is the Lightning is all truck. It shouldn't even be in the same comparison as the Vette, but interesting enough, if you do compare the two in terms of 0-60 or 1/4 mile, the Lightning can hang with it...and that's impressive.
It all boils down to respect. I would hope that Chevy guys could learn to admit that the Lightning is extremly fast, especially for what it is, and we blue oval fans could admit that those vettes aren't too bad for a sports car...that is unless you've got an *** the size of Texas like me :-)
>could learn to admit that the Lightning is extremly fast,
>especially for what it is,
Lets all face it, Hell I would be pissed too if I bought a $40,000 car & got my A$$ beat by a 4800lb. truck!
